What kinda OverClocking could I get outa this, Im new to this all so I dont got a clue.... give me your opion.

AMP XP 2000+
MSI KT4 Ultra
768 megs of DDR 2700
Nvidia FX 5200 128mg Viedo card
368watt power supply
40gig 7200 rpm HD
Windows XP Pro

Thanks for your opion and help.

Would you happen to know if you 2000+ is a pally or tbred? If it is a pally, I would expect something in the 1.7-1.9 range, a tbred something like 1.8-2.1 ghz range. Pretty decent settup. You will love that ram. Big step up from sdram. :D

I downloaded that program Aida32.. ok and it says for cpu i got

CPU Properties
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1754 MHz (6.25 x 281) 2100+
CPU Alias Thoroughbred-A
CPU Stepping A0
L1 Code Cache 64 KB
L1 Data Cache 64 KB
L2 Cache 256 KB (On-Die, Full-Speed)

CPU Physical Info
Package Type 453 Pin PGA
Package Size 4.95 cm x 4.95 cm
Transistors 37.2 million
Process Technology 6Mi, 0.13 um, CMOS, Cu
Die Size 80 mm2
Core Voltage 1.50 - 1.65 V
I/O Voltage 1.6 V
Typical Power 44.9 - 61.7 W (depending on clock speed)
Maximum Power 49.4 - 67.9 W (depending on clock speed)

Ok but i got a AMD 2000+ why does it say 2100+?? when i rigth click on my comp it says i got 1.75ghz.... and ive changed nothing. so why dont it read like a 2000+@ 1.66 or what ever they are...

You won't be able to raise the fsb very high, because via kt400 chipsets do not support agp/pci frequency locks.

It depends on if you have a tbred a or b. I wouldn't trust that Aida program if I were you. It says you have a multi of 6.25 and fsb of 281?? lol

ok then how would i find out if I got a tbred A or B

even that other program I found GCPuid says I got a tbred A

Its on the black sticker on the cpu itself. Jiuhb or Aiuhb = tbred B, because it ends in B. Ends in A= tbred A. For a tbred A, I'm guessing generally around 1.9ghz. For a B, generally 2.2ghz or so.

By reading the fourth line of your very own second post.
"CPU Alias Thoroughbred-A"

A's are better than Palominos. A's are unlocked.
They overclock 300 MHz less on average than B's though.

Post the brand of your RAM and power supply.
A's hit average 2.0 GHz.
Expect average 180ish FSB.

OK..... so how I go about doing this, sorry for all the questions just wanna make sure I understand before i do it

You read your mobo's manual.
You read this thoroughly:

Then you ask specific q if there are any.

In the end, with gradually increasing Vcore to 1.8 volts + increasing Vdimm (RAM) voltage as well if you can, expect maybe 11 x 180-ish FSB for somewhere around 2.0 GHz.

But you didn't post the most important thing - cooling!

There's a difference between all copper Thermalright and other brands, what do you have?

Don't confuse being able to boot into Windows with stability though.
Prime95 Torture test your system for 12 hours without any errors being displayed in Prime95.

i got stock heat sink and fan on the processor cooling with 3 case fans.... what do you recomend?

I think hitting 180 with that mixed ram is very possible.....
I agree with c627627 what kinda heatsink and fan you got?....
368 watt psu where is that # from....sounds kinda like and odd #....maybe it's just me....

but if the cooling is good....I would say 2gHz would be reasonable.....and to be honest youll love the speed 2gHz is essentially a 2600+....I say this because he would proabably be running 180x11.5 which I know is less Ghz less then a 2600+ but it has much more fsb.....so thats where I get the performance rating :)

ok then Ill chck out my local store for a better heat sink/fan combo cooler then Ill give this a try...

Ok first off thanks for all your help... now to the point.. I got 2 pc with a 2000+ in them so I checked both...

MY Machine:
axda2000dut3c 92b3925250072
RIUGA 0236mppw AMD 1999

My Girls PC:
axda2000dut3c y837976270706
AIUHB 0317vpmw 1999AMD

So if I understand my GF is a better processor and I should put it in my pc for a better OCing... correct.

what do all the other ## and letters on the processors mean? and what kinda speeds can i get out of it? and colling?? how far can i go with the stock AMD heat sink and fan?

They're both excellent for stock speeds.

B overclocks 300 MHz further but you need non-retail cooling for overclocking.

Try to work in a Thermalright heatsink. At the very least the $9 SK6+ but I'd go for the $15.99

Don't forget a fan, nothing too loud, but pretty much any 80x25mm will do with SK-7.

Look for cheaper fans if $'s concern.

Ok Ill get a new fan and heat sink but what kinda speeds you say 300 more but what is that like say 2100..2200 or so.

Ive been testing it and I see the... it was set at 12.5*133 witch is 1.6667

or so I lower the multiplyer value IE 12.5 down to the lowest I can go.. 6
then raise the the fsb up... ok how far do I go.... I understand a little at a time but what would I exspect to get so that I dont try something way to much.

like 11*180 gives me 1981 that is 300 more than stock.
12.5*144 get me 1800

where do i or do i change the voltage? and if so how far?
