Does chlorine prevent corrosion? I think it may make it worse.

Chlorine will cause problems with copper. If the pH of the water gets below 7 then copper will be corroded away and will be in the water and can cause blue stains on the tubing and res when the level of copper gets high.
Fair enough Thanks.......

Just the same, I'm gonna try running a small amount with my bong cooler. I've used 3 different products trying to combat the slime that grows in the system, and so far they all have major drawbacks. Mostly causing the water to foam terribly.

Evaporated chlorine... sounds like something you want in your lungs =p

Don't use chlorine if you have any aluminum in your system.
Chlorine breaks down the anodization on aluminum.

Shouldn't be bad so long as the concentration is low. Chlorinated swimming pool water smells noticably of chlorine, yet is generally accepted as non toxic. I've got good airflow in that room and I'll be carefull of the concentrations.

You should use 100% pure chlorine in the room where you do your folding. Also, use a 2400gpm pump for the evaporator and close all the windows.

...if you think that will work. As a fellow Folder, I'm sure you have my best interests in mind :-/

IT WOULD COOL SO MUCH BETTER!!!
Be careful chlorine even in low concentrations eats away rubber seals. So if you have any rubber o-rings and seals in your system plan on replacing very frequently.

I worked in the swimming pool industry for about 5 years, the chlorine levels accepted as safe in pool water is 1 - 5 ppm (parts per million). If you added maybe 1 or 2 drops of chlorine bleach then you should be okay within these levels, anymore than that and the levels will be really high!
Have you tried adding an Antifoam to the bong along with your other additives? This can be found anywhere that sells Pool and spa supplies.
Do you have any pics of your bong setup Mustanley? I am still debating setting up a bong cooler here in FL with how high the ambient temps are as well as high humidity. Winter's coming up so I guess it would be okay these next 6 months...

There's a link to some pics in my sig.
Thanks for the info on the antifoam additive and chlorine levels.
I used bleach in my bong when I ran one. About a teaspoon or two per 2.5 gallon jug of water. I pretreated it so that any creapy crawlies had time to die before adding it to the bong.
Yes, you can smell the bleach if you stick your face in the top of the bong, but it's no stronger than wiping your face with bleached white towel.
No creapy crawlies in my bong for the 6 months it ran, and no destruction of my copper, brass or pump.
Do not use any galvanized fittings though, I made that mistake. The bleach and the zinc reacted to make crystals that almost blocked that one fitting completely. Finally I found a plastic counterpart, and it was replaced.
1-5 ppM, not like it's Bhopal or anything guys...ya use more bleach in the laundry, and the city uses it in your drinking water if you're a city dweller. It's not even enough to lighten the carpet when you spill...not even close.
*I do recommend an air filter though on the air intake. The only problem I'd had with my bong is dust bunnies wrapping themselves around my impeller. It'll slow down your flow, and slowly choke your pump to death.
