I'm sorry I'm new to the whole CPU overclocking thing. I have just build a new
computer with an AMD athlon Thunderbird 1.2 ghz, on a Aopen ak73-1394 m/b with 256mb of ram and I am wondering the average idle and load temperatures of the chip i have a Alpha PAL 6035 h/s with a sunnon 60mm fan. Right now I have nothing on the computer not even windoze. I am also wondering if I should get win 2k or win 98 I am a huge gamer and I'm not sure if all my games will run on win 2k that would also be a help.

Welcome to the Forum. Hope you will enjoy it and learn from the wealth of knowledge here.
Question 1. I would say 5-10C above ambient (room temp) idle
and no higher than 50C full load. This depends on case cooling, thermal paste on HSF, lapping the heatsink and degree of O/C.
# 2. If you game alot , like I do, stick w/ Win98SE. It is good for all games and most problems are worked out.
LOL

Thank you I do belive I will enjoy this site very much. Yes right now it's running about 41C in the BIOS I have absolutely no case fans (not for long though they are on their way) right now the computer is in the Air Conditioned network office of my school where I spend my afternoons fixing other peoples computers, but my computer isn't going to stay here for long at the end of the school year I am going back to my year round home on Martha's Vineyard Island where it will be much warmer because my house does not have air conditioning. I think I will stick with Win 98SE thank you very much for your advice I appreciate it very much.

Glad to be of help.
A bit of advice, read as many reviews, posts, articles and etc. as you can, it is amazing how much knowledge you will acquire. Most of what little knowledge I have on PC's and O/Cing comes from surfing the web and this forum.
