That, unfortunately, doesn't work in ME, due to the castration of DOS. I'm not sure how to do it, myself...maybe if you post in the software and OS board you can get some better help.
Geezzz...

But in ME you can't do that with system files. Doens't work. Do some research before you go telling people off.

i once read an article about restoring dos on win me.......although i forgot where and when i read it but this is possible....
Few weeks ago, I read that article too but did not pay attention to it since I tried the ME last month, but removed it, went back to 98 SE, never look back at ME again. For me, I am please with 98 SE, 2000 Pro and Hopefully the hype XP soon :-) :-) :-)
I was wondering that myself. I got bios update utility that works from windows. But I ve'e got a firmware update for CD-rom that needs a bottable dos disk. Haven't had time to reasearch this yet cause I've been burning in a new CPU.
Yo GOD, tell us a way to do it that actually works. ;D
You can't do it in ME. Do you have access to a PC with 98 on it. Use that to format a floppy for booting.
Hoot
all you need to do is make a winME bootdisk then delete all the files off it except the command.com file....copy over your flash program and bios upgrade then boot to the floppy and run the flash

Sorry for the edge in my "voice". I shouldn't post before morning coffee. I guess the truth is I got a little problem with your Handle. Like I said that's my problem and I apologize.
Guess I just expect perfection from GOD.
But my post was just that I also wanted to know how to format a floppy, only I need to flash the CD-rom bios. I was gonna try modifying a boot-disk also. It just seemed to me like you were belittling the original poster . I'd hate for someone to screw their system up because they were afraid to ask a question. BTW there is no useful info on this topic in the ME help files.

I stand correct for what I said... There is a castrated DOS in win ME. All you need to do is go to start, run and type in command to get to dos. Can you format your boot disk using format a:\s ? I don't know but you surely can access to DOS.... Do some reading gentlemen... The article about DOS in win ME is in the current SMARTCOMPUTING magazine.... or try this http://www.smartcomputing.com/

Thanks for the link tim. There is also a icon for the dos prompy on the programs menu. format a: /s is no good. This really Sucks, I liked having the best of both worlds with previous versions of Windows. But.. ME is great otherwise. Guess I'll get used to it when I learn a few tricks.
You are welcome slake... I have been to many OC sites but I just love you guys at Overclockers.com. I am a solid fan of this forum... for how long??? too long.... to remember ;-)

All you have to do is get to your dos prompt and type format a: then after that is complete type sys a: that will transfer command.com your autoexec and config.sys to make it bootable then transfer the flash utility to the floppy...

We are talking about Windows ME. The sys command only works on C drive
Go on over to Icrontic.com's KT133/KT133A forum and under the bios category theres a thread on How to flash a bios. Good tutorial for Win 95, 98, 98se and ME. It will tell ya everything ya need ta know!

I have never run ME and probably never will. I work in an NT and 2000 Pro environment for Dell (Getronics) and if I need a bootable and can not get to a 98 box, I cheat. I get a BIOS flash from Dell's webpage. Most of them are disk *image* format. You stick a floppy in and double click the icon. It formats, makes it bootable and installs the flash program in one step. Then all you have to do is remove the Dell flash, put yours on and away you go.
