Has anyone considered putting an automated f@h installer on Kazaa or putting it in e-mail (for those dumb enough to run something sent through e-mail)? I mean, whoever did this could score MAD points. I'm tempted to do it....

Screw you guys, this is my idea! I call Kazaa and Grokster!

Always get permission
You can read the sticky up top, but there are many good reasons not to do this, including legal reasons, not to mention ethical ones. Be an ethical folder, get permission before you install FAH on any machine.

This is already done by Google with their toolbar.

So the company that owns Google actually does this, and doesn't really mention it? I had it on my PC accidentally a while ago, but uninstalled it once I noticed it.

But if they download it and run it that is permission, otherwise you wouldn't run it...

You might want to add a configuration file so it folds for whoever you wish.

In a way, this is what Arkaine23 is doing. In his case, he is giving a folding client away in a Knoppix install, rather than via E-mail. Just different vehicles of transport..

Permission is a good thing though. Perhaps you could just write E-malis explaining what F@H is and send links instead..

I had more or less the same idea of sending the one-click to everyone in my contact list an ftelling them to send it to everyone in theres, but i never did although at some point i will send it to all my friends as they know what it is already. A friend of mine game me the idea of putting it about on many of the p2p networks at first i thought what a great idea, that would generate loads of production, but then i came to thiking about how that would reflect on the team as a whole so i thought it best not to go with that idea, for now ill just leave it at working on the friends to fold.......

Yes, I admit to somewhat shady ethics in my specialized bootable folding CD. But every single place I mention Overclockix, it says straight away that it folds. And also during the boot sequence the init script for folding spits out messages about downloading the DC software and starting the folding@home service. People who use Overclockix know it folds if they bother to read the description of the CD. And they can change the username and Team or kill the client very easily if they desire.
