i have really one main question, is it dagerous if thermal grease (arctic silver 2 to be specific) gets on anywhere other then the core on the tbird? there is kind of an interesting story behind that question. last night i got home from work and found my blue orb had come and misc. cables/adapters i needed. i had decided before that i would wait to install my hsf until i got the orb for my geforce 2. anyway, i installed the orb and was in the process of applying the goop when somebody down stairs let the dog in. when my dog comes in from outside she goes crazy, running around as fast she can until she tires. She just happend to run up stairs and right over my feet. now, as you all know dogs can have fairly lengthy claws(sharp too) , i was barefooted. this caused my great pain, my hand squeezed to hard on the arctic 2 and bam, big mess. i wipped out the rubbing alcohol and tried to clean it, it wasnt really coming off. i spent a good 45 min cleaning it off, or trying to any way. bottom line: theres still some smeared around the core (2 sides of it). does it matter if it got on those chips around the core?
I would try and get that off the little parts around the core before turning on the computer. A little nail polish remover or Zippo lighter fluid. Thats what I use and it comes right off. Be careful with those 4 little pads tho, lighter fluid will take those right off and you want to keep them on there.

This is the problem with AS. I got it all over my processor (and rest of the computer). I have wiped out most of it and it hasnīt caused any problems. It isn't supposed to be conductive, but you can never be sure.
Well, it isn't ruined until it's smoked!
But yes, under pressure and heat, you could short across some of those stupid bridges AMD decided to locate near the slug. There have been reports of T-Birds frying in this manner with Arctic Silver. I dunno for sure, but TT120's recommendation seems reasonable.
