i was bored today and decided to listen to metallica (One to be more specific) and the foam gasket thing around my speakers exploded, the speakers still work fine but over half of that foam stuff is gone. i don't want to replace them as they are good speakers, 12 inch cerwin vega's, but i also don't want to spend a fortune to have them repaired as i don't use them too often (parents and neibors start to complain).

so, has anyone had speakers repaired or at least know about how much it would cost? i don't want to start calling places until i have an idea of what i should expect to pay.

btw, i got the speakers for free so i am willing to spend some money to have them fixed.... as long as it doesn't come close to the cost of replacing them with new vega's (in which case i would go for 15 inch vega's)

My father is in the Car and home audio field and does speaker repair. I'll ask him what the going rate is.

What size, make and model.

well, i ended up calling a local shop, they estimated it to be about $40 per speaker. doesn't sound unreasonable, espically considering that these speakers would cost about $200 to replace.

Usually you can do it yourself with a reconning ( <-sp?) kit, for less. But, if you've never done it before it may be worth it to have it done by some one who has done it before. Especially if it only costs $40.
