right ppl....i have just bought a Western Digital 7200RPM 40gig hdd (WD400 Refurbished). I was wondering if there was a known incompatibility with this hard drive and motherboard as when i set the HDD to master, it locks the PC up when IDE searching (after CPU and DDR speed posting+testing). When i set it to anything else (Cable select or slave) it lets me into teh bios but detects no hard drive.
I've set the HDD to Master on Primary IDE channel and have tried several IDE cables that i know work fine. Im just wondering if i have another dead HDD :( thanks guys/gals ...gazz

There should be no problem running that hdd on any motherboard. It sounds like either the jumpers on the HDD are wrong or the HDD is messed up. Does it spin the hdd at all?

You might have your jumper settings wrong. I was having a similar problem with my wd800jb. You may have it set to master with slave present, but have no slave drive. You need to set it to master/single. Do you have it alone on it's channel, though?

I always hear about computers not being able to detect the HD..sometimes its because the HD is broken, or sometimes its because the system is messed up one way or another..
