So which is better?

The unified nVidia drivers or the ones tweaked by the manufacturer?

I noticed that I could get 85 hertz on my monitor with the Leadteck drivers while only 75Hz with nvidia's unified drivers.

Well what is the max refresh rate of your monitor at the resolution in question? You could just uncheck 'Hide modes that this monitor can't display' and set it to 85 anyway.

As for which is better, I'd blindly speculate that going with the manufacturers drivers is safer. Although I wonder just how much they get tweaked before that Asus or Leadtek name is slapped on them. I've never bothered to try them myself, perhaps on next format I'll try the Leadtek 45.23 set.

Are you asking about video cards or motherboards?

I always go with nvidia's (for both nforce and GeForce) because they tend to update sooner than the manufacturers do.

That's how I did it the first time with the Leadtek drivers. Won't work with nVidida's newest 2k/xp unified drivers.

Maybe it's the Leadtek driver tweaks.

I'm using s2k3 now and haven't tried to go past 75Hz yet.

I once installed Nvidias drivers......System became Unstable.
Went back to the ASUS 1.16 drivers..System Is faster and Stable..
IMHO.....stay with the motherboards' manufacturers' drivers

nVidia some worked better than manufacturer some not and some crashed my system!
with nVidia drivers it all depends on luck like everything else!

I use the latest drivers from nvidia. But get the latest forceware audio drivers, there will be noticable difference in quality and if u have that ringing noise, it will be gone with these drivers. Also I don't know if it's me but overall system performance is better with the new forceware audio drivers from nvidia.

just a matter of chance if you ask me. trial and error. i've had gainwards drivers mess up my vid capture on 2 boards. third board worked fine with them. nvidia's worked well on all 3.

i have had better luck using nvidias nvstorm instead of my msi's soundstorm..

i liked the system utility you can download from nvidia too,you can adjust fsb and see all your memory specs and temps! its nice.

On my old Asus A7V8X the 4 in 1 drivers from via were the only way to run.. on my current rig the Asus drivers are the best performers... I think it depends on your chipset and each MB..

I tend to use the manufacturers drivers. I have been burned in the past by using the chipset makers drivers. Espceially with ASUS. I have had nothing but problems with their products and chipset drivers. As far as utilities it makes no difference. That is all preference in my book.

As far as your monitor display issues with Hertz u need to install your monitor drivers. I know people are gonna laugh when I saw this but many monitors have drivers too that proload the monitor specs in and the support features for XP to enable extra display modes.

In fact when I go to Windows Update it offers me a driver for my monitor. I don't personally like it so I don't use it.

Ive always used NVidias drivers as they tend to be more up to date, so have less issues running games :p

You need to go with the board mfg's drivers because they may have some feature that the chipset drivers cant handle...i.e. some obscure change or difference. I used the chipset drivers on my daughters computer for her video card...it did not work very well at all, then I put the card mfg's driver in and it works fine....But if you get the chipset drivers to work and they are of an updated version...go for it.

Also, why of all threads does this one keep getting bumped? I mean, there is nothing really exceptional or revolutionary about it...

Looks like a random off topic posting.

Heck I haven't seen that machine in the original post since I sold it last year.
