For mandrake 9.1, you'll have to used 3.24 B client. That version of mandrake has the newer glibc 2.3, and so the "B" clients are the only ones that will work correctly on it. The 3.25 beta client is maybe a little faster, but it won't work on MDK 9.1.

You could also use the windows 3.25 beta client and run it under wine.

Speed differences between windows and current linux clients are nomnial in my experience, and only SSE on AMD CPU's when the -forceasm flag is used is the real issue to be concerned about. I'm not sure if 3.24 still has a bug in it where SSE works on the first WU, but only 3dnow on subsequent WU's unbless you restart the client... Also, Linux clients have fewer gromacs projects available because Stanford has had a little trouble lately. they are working to implement a new version of Gromacs that would hopefully correct this. All this means is that sometimes you get tinker WU's a little more often when using native Linux clients (about 1 in 10 WU's is a tinker in my experience).

Try this command:

which glibc

If that doesn't work, just try 3.25 beta. It will seg fault if you have the newer glibc, and then you'll know to use 3.24B instead.
