I found a problem with my network. Whenever I idled for several minutes, my DSL connection was dropped automatically. After that I did a search at google.com and found some information about "Connect on Demand" and "Keep Alive", then I checked and set "Keep Alive: Redial Period 1 Sec." (This option is supposed to keep my internet connection alive regardless my idle time.) The prevous method didn't work, so then I checked and set "Connect on Demand: Max Idle Time 0 Min." (This option is supposed to drop my connection if I idle for a certain min. But, I set the value to 0. So, my connection should be alive without time limit.) I tried both methods, but they didn't work as they were supposed to. In order to solve this problem, I need to press "save settings" in my Linksys setup page. After that, my connection was backed to normal.

It is annoying that I have to keep pressing "save settings" whenever my connection is droppped. Do you have any idea why this happened?

Thank you!

I have to wonder if this is a problem related to your ISP since you have tried so many things...that and personally my lynksys has no issues like that.

Your speculation is reasonable. I don't know what to do. I am using Earthlink DSL (PPPoe) with dynamic IP address.

My guess is that Earthlink changes my IP address in a certain amount of intervals. That is why I have to press "save settings" in my Linksys setup page to update my IP addresses. I hope my speculation is false, because if it were true, I cannot do anything. I guess one way to solve this problem is to pay Earthlink money for a static address.

If any of you knows anything about this situation, please give me some suggestions.

Thanks!

I supose thats a possibility but i was under the impression that the IP only changed when you disconnected...obviously that is the problem but i'm just saying i've never heard of an ISP dropping a connection simply to change the IP address.

Im running an external DSL modem from my local telephone coop and we just changed over to ADSL(DynamicIP) from Microburst DSL(Static IP). and from what i have been told is the the only time my IP is changed is when my exteral modem is powered down ,a break in connection in my phone line or my server shuts down. i can shut down my pc 1000 times and i still would have the same IP address.

Im using 2 nics in my main rig

1 NIC to the DSL modem
1 NIC to my other computer for ICS and Networking

Westell DSL Modem(from ISP)
USB and/or Cat 5

Some users at broadbandreports.com forum (http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,7534720~root=equip,16~mode=flat) have the same problem with mine. It seems like I have to update my Linksy BEFSR41 ver3's firmware to fix the random connection drop problem. But currently, Linksys hasn't written an updated firmware for the version 3 of Linksys BEFSR41.

But still, no one really knows the cause of the randon disconnections of DSL connection.

I'm having the same problem with my Linksys router, so I have just unplugged it for now until I can come up with a solution.
