I got the x-superalien case and it has a wire that i should put somewhere near the cpu so I can get temperature readings. WHere is the best place to put it so I get the most accurate temperature?
And what is the best program i could download to monitor my video card temps?
under the die would be the best spot. second best would be on the base of the heatsink where it DOES NOT SIT ON TOP OF THE DIE. :D

Do you mean that it should be touching the cpu?

No, its shouldnt touch the die.

If the wire is thin enough that it does not cause issues with the cpu sitting incorrectly in the socket then run it under the cpu and touch the underbelly of the chip, directly under where the core would be.

it should be touching on the bottom, not on the top... like inbetween the cpu and the mobo... you know what im getting at?
What if you tape or glue it so that it touches the core's side without going between the top of the core and the heatsink? Would that be even better?

Its a real thing wire so I'll put it under the cpu.

first off, i don't think you can do that and secondly i think that would actually be less effective.

if its small enought drill a hole in the heatsink from the edge to the center above the cpu (need a thick base swiftys and big alphers are easy to do) then insert the thermocouple/thermister or whatever the temp senser is in the the hole with a small amount of non conductive pate. make sure the sensor is eletricly insulated before inserting it. this will alow you to get real close to the die.

are you saying that you take cut the base of the heatsink? IMO thats not a very good thing to do since that would lessen the surface area of contact with the cpu.

no you drill in side it you do not interfear with the base of the base (makes no-sence does it?) the diode is inside the heat sink base. drill from edge to center with a very fine bit. there is still some base below the diode that is in contact with the die. or another way to think this is to make a holow space above the die that is small just for the diode but its not interfering with the contact area.
