Don't use petroleum based solvents or cleaners, they are relly bad for CPU's. Here is Artic Silvers method;

Unbelievable how well paint thinner does. But to really get it from those tiny cracks and crevasses is to lap it.

Dimitri, is it the Chomerics pink 'bubble gum' thermal interface material, or some other material. The pink TIM is an easy clean up with acetone.(I use common nail polish remover)

If another compound, I would try and see what the manufacturer recommends.

acetone is petroleum based. they use it because it leaves the least residue and is the most efective. And It wont hurt the CPU i've done it manny times and have had no problems as of yet.

I got some lint free cloths (my monitor is immaculate now!) and used the alcohol, worked like a charm. I've got all my gear now, the moment of truth is tomorrow as a try for 1.4 Thanks for the timely replies!
