Are you talking about Battle Royale GN 2? If so it looks like its already out... http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/1591823153.html

I recomend www.animenation.com for your needs.

(Personally I just got the new Chobits "Love Defined") dvd today)

Darn americans? Whats the reason for that comment?

my last DVD buy was the Excel Saga series.

but I know how you feel. Bandai lisenced Gundam SEED right after Episode 44 was fansubbed, ****ed me off to no extend that I'd probably have to wait 2 years before I could see the rest of the episodes!

Ok.. Someone PLEASE list the correct order for the Gundams..
One of the reasons I;ve never gotten into it at all is cause I have NO idea what videos come first..

Anyone wanna give a timeline so ppl know what to watch first?

ok, btw I was refering to the Battle Royale II Live action movie ;)

darn americans... licensing crap they dont intend to release for months..
and that gundam seed thing ****ed me off too, and I wasnt even that far along. but it gets better.. I had the last few eps to get of Wolf's Rain, but I left for vacation, then they released them, then it was licensed. and then I got back... so no Rain for me

last DVD I bouth was HK Imports for Lain: Serial Experiments and She, The Ultimate Weapon.

proper order for Gundam

Series Total Year

Mobile Suit Gundam 43 1979
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam 50 1985
Mobile Suit Gundam Double Zeta 47 1986
Mobile Suit Gundam F-91 1 1991
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory 13 1991
Mobile Suit V Gundam 51 1993
G-Gundam 49 1994
Gundam Wing 49 1995
Gundam X 39 1996
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz 3 1997
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket 6 1998(no clue)
Gundam Seed 50 2002

enjoy :) LMFAO!!

*edit* you can just start at Gundam Wing and go foreward.. it seems each main series changes characters anyways.
like from Mobile suit gundam->Gundam Wing->gundam Seed

LOL I'm not that much into anime, but I can understand your pain :D If they're gonna liscence it, they should be ready to put it on the market soon! Don't make us suffer through partial fansubbs!

I guess I'll steer clear of Lain then.... NGE was a bit too much for my brain when it finished :D

Jig.. I recomend Martian Sucessor Naidesco. Think of it as NGE w/o all the philosophy and brain olympics. Still has giant robots.. NME intent on taking over the world. Funky love problems, plenty of fanservice.

And the #1 reason... Ruri :)

I kinda liked lain better than NGE as far as brain tweakers...
but if you like the mecha stuff and dont mind a bitt of brain stuff.. RahXephon ROCKS!!!!

also, if you like the love/comedy, Love Hina is good too. if you like bloody stuff. Devil Lady is good, hehe. kinda anti-religious though (see sig)

Well if you are american.. then you should say Darn Bandi rather then darn americans... And rather then complain about the delay.. be happy it got liscensed at all.

Yea Love Hina is great.. I got the whole series.. manga and dvd's... 1 manga to go before the end :(

no, darn americans... for more reaons than this, this is just one of them.. but due to the nature of people, wont go into that here. besides, people darn thier own nationaliity all the time ;)

and I love it when it isn't licensed because I can get it 1. as fansubs. or 2. very cheap for the whole series as HK imports. cheap being, the whole series for a few dollars more than one domestic DVD. and love Hina is very funny indeed, got DVDs as well. I also think Ranma ½ is very funny but sorta long (7 seasons =S )... also, if you've seen very many anime's you GOTTA watch FLCL (Furri Kurri) its hilarious and makes some very funny references to manga, NGE, Initial D, Gundam and many others. its funny. but dont expect it to make a lot of sense, its more for the humor value rather than captivating story ;)

you only really need to know what the animes are and the base story to get most of the refernces to them. but to get the true humor in FLCL you need to have seen atleast several of them :)

I have Patlabor, but I just haven't found time to watch it all yet. It's like 60-someodd eps, iirc.

I went to CNAnime about 2 weeks or so ago, and bought a whole load of stuff! I got the Serial Experiments: Lain box set, the Hellsing box set, and all 6 discs of Cowboy Bebop. My friends picked up FLCL and a few others, too.

I almost bought the first two discs of Onegai Teacher, but they were too expensive, and I couldn't afford them :(.

FLCL makes many more references to anime than most people think. There are tons of references and little things that you won't pick up unless you watch it again and again and again (and again). I think I've watched it about . . . 10 times or so, if not more. It's THAT good! :D And I STILL pick up stuff in it!

I'm still waiting for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex to be licenced over here. I'll be on that like a fat kid on a cupcake when it's over here :)

I found a guy that makes custom aluminum boxes for some anime sets.. Like a 2 box for the NGE movies. A box that holds ALL the Love Hina dvd's rather then just the series.. but he also has a box for the movies themselves.

THe artwork is totally beautiful.. laser etched and fully colored...

Since I got Lain as seperate dvd's.. I'm gonna get the box for it from this guy as well as Love Hina and probably Chobits unless I can hook someone els on it and give them my cuirrent dvd 1 and replace it with the dvd+box for it...

Hey thats kinda cool, might have a look just for looking if anything.

Oni, and again and again and again :) Hellsing was pretty good do, good vampire flic IMO. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has a wicked intro starting at episode 3 its all CG, very cool, whats funny is I think the song is portguese or russian or something similar. Sounds cool though

Well, there's a fair amount of fanservice, same as w/ Onegai Teacher (which is one of my favourites, actually). It's not hentai or anything like that.

The premise is that there are two young ladies in this boy's rather dull life. The catch is that one of them is his blood relative, so he can't really make a pass at either of them, no matter how much he may want to. It makes for some t3h funnay.

The coolest part of that anime, however, is that they put my favourite character from Onegai Teacher in it. Morino Ichigo :D

Patlabor

Trigun
Princess Mononoke
Akira

Awesome Anime --
Trigun (what anime is supposed to be  )
Outlaw Star (very good charachters, good plot, awesome intros)

Good Anime --
Inu Yasha (haven't seen enough to put in 'Awesome', but so far is pretty good)
NGE (Until you hit the end.... Uggg...)
Princess Mononoke
GTO (THAT was a bit of explaining for my dad :D )
Tenchi
DBZ (RADITZ AND VEGETA ONLY!)

OK Anime --

Pocket Monsters (subbed Pokemon)
Cowboy Bebop (*dons flame retardant suit*)
Zoids (Chaotic Centry.... New Century is t3h 5ux0r5....)
Cardcaptors (cute, but haven't seen enough to know if the plot is any good)
Hamtaro (cute, but that's ALL it has going for it.)

Bad Anime --
Lupon III (sorry, but it just didn't do anything for me.)
Pokemon (dubbed Pocket Monsters)
Zoids (New Century one)
Medabots
DBZ (FREEZA AND AFTER)

and RahXephon is like NGE just not quite as messed up, and the main male character is not as much of a wuss as Shinji is, hehe.

I don't care that you don't like it, but would you mind telling me why you don't like it? It's one of my favourites, actually. Good story, excellent artwork and character development, good voice acting both english and japanese. There's not a lot to not like about it.

*Oni checks the Big List o' Anime (tm)

Some of my favourites are Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments: Lain, Hellsing, Ah! Megami-sama, Love Hina/Love Hina Again, Trigun, Onegai Teacher, Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Onegai Twins, Tenchi Muyo! (OAV), Ghost in the Shell/Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Kenshin (OAV), Akira (it's a classic), Metropolis, Voices of a Distant Star, and my absolute favourite out of all of them, FLCL.

I have various reasons for liking all of them, and I'm not in an essay-writing mood right now ;). I'm pretty sure most of you can read that, and figure out why I like them.

In the last year or so, I've become much more critical of anime. There's a lot of crap floating around out there, and it can be hard to sepperate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. It's more than just looking at the pretty moving pictures, you have to take into account voice acting (both english and japanese), animation style, character design and locale design, wether or not the characters develop enough and/or properly etc. If you've got all of those, you can have a really phenominal anime :)

I think I'm done ranting for now.

and I dont like it because
1)the story was lame (standard, ultimate power/godlike thing. boy likes girl but girl is some cyborg creation and the key to ultimate power type plot. which there are much better ones like She, The Ultimate Weapon.)
2)ending was lame
3)animation looked like some American kiddy cartoon, the people looked like dolls
4) however, there were some cool CG parts but other than that, ugh.
5) not enough character development on several of the characters

1) So, like every other anime out there?

2) Ending was very touching, I thought. I just about hemorraged when they started playin "I can't stop loving you" while the Ziggurat was crumbling.

3) Osamu Tezuka's artwork was characteristically like that. That's how anime used to look. Go watch some Astroboy before you badmouth the father of the medium you love.

4) The CG was good, yes. So good, infact, that I thought it took away from some scenes. Lots of stuff to take in during it.

5) Personally, I thought the characters were developed rather well, considering that the flick is only 1 hour and 40 minutes long. They developed more than the standard fare that Hollywood vomits at us all the time. It also helps to have read the manga for this particular title (as w/ most anime, actually). Osamu Tezuka's characters are interchanged a lot in his anime. Meaning, that he uses the same characters in a lot of his work. Gives them different names and different manerisms, but they're the same drawings.

* Oni takes a long, cleansing breath.

1) no, but even if it was, its the not the best one of that genre anyways
2)meh..
3) I know what it used to look like and who carews who it was. its been improved, so I like the new anime, just like I like the new Simpson's (not brand new but the newer stuff)
4) the only highlight for me
5) comparing the glory and quality of anime (even the crappiest anime) to that of the hollywood dribble we get here is like comparing a ferrari to a pile of cow dung. the initial difference is so large its irrelevant. I compare anime to other anime, nothing else. unless its cartoons that we get stuck with here (like sponge bob, which I also despise  ) I will say that I have not read the manga, for one reason it costs a junkload, like 15$ a book. and that is not worth it to me. especially if I didnt like the anime. and if its done well, movies should not have to be explained with additional reading and what not. It is also not my prefered genre, whatever it was. Im most fond of the 17+ up anime, where people are ripping each other apart and such. or the comedies, love stories. Or good mind trips. and comparing the ones similar to the genre of metropolis, it was the worst. The endings of Saishuu Heiki Kanojo and Fruits Basket were much more moving (especially the first). IMO. And to restate... it doesnt really matter if he was the father of "the medium I love" I still hate it.. and you dont have to like the fist edition if the second is much better. which is true for tons of things. hehehe...

Me. If violence is going to take place, I will enjoy it if
a) there's a point to it
b) I care whether or not a certain character is going to die because I want to see their character develop further (or how the other characters react if that character dies)

This is what's largely missing from "Giant-Robot-Destroys-Everything" titles. The characters are emotionless, vapid, shallow individuals that seemingly stay the same no matter what happens. You have no insight into their deeper motivations because every episodes revolves around "I must save the world, and what luck, all I have to do is destroy this new large opponent. Have at you!" They fight, the end. (Gundam Wing anyone?)
Aside from that, Big O looks ridiculously similar to Batman: TAS. Minus the after-taste of revenge, and the quality writing.

In case you hadn't noticed, the first thing I prefer over any other aspect of films, television, and animation is character development. Then writing, then originality, then execution (production quality).
I'm picky :p

What I've seen of Inu Yasha didn't really blow me away. The character designs were cute, but the story seemed reminiscent of Escaflone (schoolgirl transported to another world, made to do battle w/ it's inhabitants). That doesn't make it bad, however. I'd have to see more to make a more informed opinion, but that's what I gathered from what I watched.

I've liked 99.9% of all the anime on your list that I'ves seen. Lain was the only one I just didn't enjoy. It just got too depressing and slow so I stopped watching it by episode 11. Maybe I need to watch it while alternating it with something really cute and upbeat.

Oh, and here's another reason I haven't watched alot of Anime (besides me being a cheap-skate). I'm avoidant of series with anything more than BRIEF nudity. That cuts my available options in half. :p
Graphic violence can also be annoying, depends on the context and whether or not it could have been avoided by using creative cinematography or editing (something doesn't Spielberg seem to understand).

Things I forgot on my list

1. I just watched 4 episodes of Soul Taker, ugh. That's some crappy writing. The animation was great, but that's never enough to save a worthless and confusing plot line.
2. Blue Submarine No. 6, I hated it. When the dialogue did make any sense, it was stupid and not very insightful as to what was going on and why anyone was doing anything.
3. FLCL. Must watch it a million times. And why are they talking about breast-tweaking?

Weird/Obscure titles worth a look
"Grave Of The Fireflies". It's sad, but a must-see.

"Little Nemo: Adventures in Dreamland"
Holy crap that's a weird one. The dubbing was bad, so I'd REALLY like to see it again in subtitles. The animation was good and the characters were interesting. As a basis of comparison, this was only the second Anime I'd ever watched. The first being Voltron (giggles tragically just thinking about that).

Edit: where are all of these accidental essays coming from? I thought I hated writing... :D

It actually does make sence. If you remember the start, and pretty much the theme of the anime, is that nothing ever happens in Mabase, Naota's town. Even when robots are poping out of his head from billions of light years away, even when ailen punk-rockers are making passes at him, even when his brother's girlfriend gives him hickeys, according to Naota, nothing happens. It's kinda funny, in a way, because it's actually the complete opposite. He just feels trapped in his town. Haruko makes him realize that that's not the case at all.

It's touching and funny and crazy all rolled into one. There's a lot of little things, too. Like in Maru Raba, when Haruko hits him w/ the Vespa at the train station, he's flying towards Ninamori at about 50 MPH, but the way they do the scene makes you forget that until he smacks right into her forehead, and transfers the N.O. field over to her head. Later in the ep, when she grows horns, they do a pie-slice thing. Starts w/ Naota, move to Kanchi, and then to Haruko, but if you look closely, the frame Naota is in gets really small, and he's strugling to make it bigger. He gets squished in it. There's just a lot of little details in the anime that make it great.

The manga panel scenes are about my favourite. How original!

I know, Thats why I said it makes sense in a bizarro kidn of way :p

and my favourite bit is when Naota finally gets his guitar and the giant bomb from space.

And the last bit of the final episoe.

Atomsk kicks so much fragging ass

Naota got the cooler guitar out of the three, I think. It's a lefty-lefty Rickenbacker 4001. They start at about $4000 USD for that model.

I would also kill for Haruko's Vespa. It's a 1964 Vespa 180 Super Sport, painted in Ducatti Desmo Yellow. They're hard to find. However, Amaro's scooter is even rarer than Haruko's!

I'm not an addict! Addicts go to meetings!

Paul McCartney used a lefty-lefty Rickenbacker, too :)

Actually, the Gibson EB-0 was Atomsk's guitar. It's a short-necked 1961 model ;)

I know, but Atomsk used it through Naota, and eventually ended up in Haruko's hands.

I've watched the series 5 times through already, don't treat me like a n00b :p :D ;)

My parents won a brand new Red Vespa in a Target contest. They're selling it :|
Those older model Vespas are really easy to find in Italy.

Yeah. If I really wanted to get around that way I'd rather get an electric scooter which is almost as fast and can be used on sidewalks.

Sure, you could get one REAL easy in Europe, but can you imagine the shipping cost!?

My dad said if I ever get one, he'll custom paint it for me. Including the "P!" logo :D
