Hi all,

I am trying to figure out what to do. I have a P933 system with a scsi HD, scsi burner & scsi cdrom plus 2 ide drives & 512 megs of ram.

I also have a dual Tyan thunder 2400 system with 2 P3 700mhz slot 1 processors, 2 gigs of SDram & dual power supplies (one seems to be not working though).

So I want to do something but, I am confused on what to do. I really am thinking about getting a current AMD dual system but I am wondering if I can make do with what I currently have.

So, whats faster, the 2 700's or the 1 933? I have 4 10k ultra 160 cheetah drives I can use also (sadly all are 9 gigs). The raid card in the Dually bit the dust & getting a new case might not be a bad thing either (only has 5 1/2 inch drive spaces so I need to be creative with fitting things).

Thanks,
Rich

Ok, IMO, and from all basic understandings, the 933 would be overall technically, faster.

However! The dual would handle more without any sort of slowing down. Once you load up so much on that 933, it will start to lag, whereas that dual 700, it would take more then likely triple the programs to cause it to lag.

So, the call is pretty much, do you do alot of multitasking type stuff, or just run a single prog at a time.

if you already have those two systems, don't you already know which is faster?

Well, I am looking to combine them. I have not really used the dual system at all before tonight. So, I guess I dont know which one is faster.

this is an interesting question...and it makes me think of something very interesting...that i will mention in a second...

but first, on which one is faster...

it depends on what you will be using it to do....

as a server, multitasker or running SMP enabled programs like photoshop....the dual 700 will be faster....

if no multitasking or SMP friendly programs...then go with the 933...(but who doesn't multitask anyway?)

also, you might be able to pin mod the socket of the tyan to force those cpu's to run at 933 with 133 fsb....you might also have to pin mod the socket for more voltage 1.8-1.85volts should do...especially if it's a "b" stepping 700...i have had a couple and they both did 933 with 1.75 and 1.82 volts...

depends on what you need it for is correct..but I think that overall a dual system beats a single one...
