View Full Version : What is the difference between an Athalon T-Bird 1 gig and an AXIA?
I am a total newbie at OC'ing but I wanna try. I'm nervous because I've never had a chip this good and I dont want to crack or fry it. How can I tell what my chip is? I just got it about 2 weeks ago its got 200/266 fsb but does that constitute an AXIA? And are there tools which I need to remove the heatsink that came with my processor? I cant seem to click it off, and I dont want to damage the board. Any advice would be appriciated.

all axia is is a steping. It's just amd's latest and greatest batch of cpus and they overclock really well.

'AXIA' or something else(see the CPU database) are the first four characters of the second line on the die of your CPU.
Your CPU is either a 200Mhz model, or a 266Mhz model. You can tell from the last character of the top line of code on your die. 'B' = 200Mhz. 'C' = 266 mhz.
For some help in removing your Heatsink try the .pdf document found here: http://www1.amd.com/athlon/config
It can be beneficial to have two people involved. One to maintain the Heatsink's location, and another to remove the clip..it's also a lot easier to do it outside of the case. If you are uncertain as to how to proceed after reading and viewing the AMD document, stop and ask some more questions.

yeah, you should be careful. Those cores aren't the most sturdy things on earth, so BE CAREFUL.
if you decide to remove your hsf ...first remove your mb from your box and set it on a towel or the bubble rap that came with your mb this will make every thing go a little more smoothly
in the first line it will end with b or c... c meaning 266
Hey guys I really apriciate all the help. I will remove my mb from my case and try that. Once I get the hsf removed I will be able to check what my CPU is. I guess AXIA is the better chip. What is the other name AVIA?

Viking, There is a quick and easy method these nimrods are overlooking. Go into the Bios, click on Iwill smart settings, click on the multiplier, change it from default by 1 unit and see if it works. This board is soooo easy to O/C the Asus and Abit users are just jealous.
dont take this the wrong way..im not a mean person but.....Its "Athlon" not "Athalon"
