Was just wondering how they compare to eachother without overclocking. Was positive I was going to stick with AMD but I cant help but wondering if if the 2.4 800FSB will give me better performance for the extra $100.
The XP2500+ vs. the 2.4C P-4 match up will go to the 2500+ if you don't allow overclocking. The 2.4C will have more memory bandwidth, but the cheaper AMD will still match many of the benchmarks at default speed.
Once you start overclocking though, the 2.4C really struts it's stuff. The 2.4C will typically run at a real 3.2 gig with low voltage and on air. With FSB and CPU clock speeds up that high, then the AMD just can't keep up. If cash is the biggest consideration, then AMD is your huckleberry. If you can afford the best and fastest, then go with an overclocked P-4.

Actually The PR rating on the 2500+ is bs. The 2500+ does not stand up to a 2.4C at stock speeds (although a 2.4B or A would be another issue). However, it is MUCH cheaper and you probably wouldn't notice the performance difference anyways.
I would get the 2500+ if you don't plan to overclock. And even if you do, you can get the 2500+ to the performance levels of a 3GHZ P4 with little problem. The 2.4Cs though are overclocking monsters.

I was amd all the way but finally folded...I'm not against amd but they will have to catch up before I make it my main rig again...I'm running both amd and intel at the moment...You will have to overclock the intel to realize the benefit....
Buy the 2.4c. Mine is overclocked from 2.4 to 3.3 on an abit IC7-G...the memory scores are ballistic (almost double) compared to the n-force board...if memory bandwidth isn't a concern then you could stay with amd...
My amd overclocked to 2300 is definitaly better than the 2.4 c running at 2400...only, the those darn memory scores....

There was a really large thread on the 2500 and 2.4. I mean, it might be still on this first page, or the second. Either way, search would find it right away if it was not deleted.

At stock speeds I'd go for the Barton cuz it's cheap. But if u want a good bang than go for the 2.4c.

I got my 2.4C on P4P800 DX using stock setup with stock cooler, and default voltage, with 1:1 GEIL PC 4000 Platinum to 270x12=3.240 GHz, no sweat.
My Barton at 2.277 GHz left in dust on any benchmark I tried.
It is not even close.
However retail Barton 2500 is $92 and retail 2.4C is $170. In general use the difference is not as visible as one may think, both are fast enough for me.
Suit yourself.

Hey not to mean to thread jack.. but if a 1700+ does 2.3ghz(stable) on a 1.65 vcore is that a good chip?

Sure it is, I run server with that chip. Waiting to get replaced with Athlon64. Minimal investment with a great performance.

please dont start this debate AGAIN. the last has several hundred post. with more opinons on both chips than you would ever need.

The barton 2500 chips coming out of newegg all seem to be newer, my chip is three weeks back from the newer 1.55v default ones. I can hit 11X200 at default voltage, stock sink. Thats competitive to a P4 @ 3Ghz if you run it in a dual channel setup. When i use my h20 setup (note, low end h20 - passive setup w/ fan blowing on it) I can get 12*200 @ 1.85V With agressive air similar results could be realized. For me the $$ weighed me to amd. I can come very close to intel performance and save some dough. Excaliber will get you a good stepping on a 1700 that most people seem to be getting to 2.3-2.4 on air. If you're going for ultimate, i'd go for the 2.4 or 2.6 intel and oc away.

Hey what's up guys? I was wondering what is everything I could do to make my 2.4c overclocked at it's max. Right now I got an MSI 865 neo2 motherboard. What else can i do that'll make it ridiculously fast in every way?
