IC7 O/C Need Help

Hardware:

P4C 2.4
2*512 MB PC3500 Geil (2, 6, 3, 3)
IC7 Bios 17

Ratio 1/1:

CPU: 2.64@220 Default V
Mem: 220 mhz 2.6-.8V (2, 6, 3, 3) (Limit)


Ratio 3/2:

CPU: air cool 3.48@290 Default V (Limit)
Mem: 193 mhz 2.6V (2, 6, 3, 3)

Ratio 5/4:

CPU: 3.12@260 Default V
Mem: 208 mhz 2.6-.8 (2, 6, 3, 3)


Ratio 5/4 does not seem to be limited by cpu or memory, but can't it get any higher. Any suggestions?

Live with it? But seriously, it seems there is some issue with the new Abit motherboards and the 5:4 divider with 2x512mb ram. The ultimate source of the problem is a bios issue, but it seems to only manifest it self with certain types of ram.

With your current ram you can try turning off the last two Game Accel Tech settings, that seems to help for some people. Also you might want to slow down the ram timings a bit, pun intended.

With the last computer I built, Corsair XMS Twinx 3700 2x512mb would not work after 250 fsb; and believe me I tried every combination of settings. After returning the ram, and getting some Buffalo Tech ram of the same specs I am able to run it at 270 FSB. YMMV, but if at all possible try some different ram. (Newegg was nice enough to return the Corsair without a restocking fee when I explained the issue.)
 
Was able to get to 5/4 270 FSB, but had to use memory (2.5, 6, 3, 3) and 2.8V. That's only 217 mhz memory speed. The ram does 220 mhz using 2, 6, 3, 3 at 1:1. Beginning to think there's something wierd going on between 250, 260, and 270 FSB using 5/4. Any way, which settings do you think is the best, 1:1, 3/2, 5/4 260, or 5/4 270? Currently, running 3/2.
 
I'd go with 270 MHz 5:4, but it's a good idea to run a benchmark that simulates what you want to do with the machine.

I think you'll find that 270/5:4 is better than 220/1:1 for virtually any task you can come up with.
