Onboard sound

I fixed my bios problem on my Chaintech 9PJL(another post) and was wondering how good on-board sound is in general??? I have a Sonic Xplosion sound card in my system now, but would like to free up a pci slot. 9PJL uses Cmedia's 8738 chip. Not a big audiophile, but want it to sound good. Also I need some better memory. Will probably have to get 256mb now and another 256mb in a couple of weeks. Looking at Mushkin,Geil,HyperX..
