View Full Version : 1.33 AVIA Bridges locked?

I just received T-bird 1.33 AVIA and I looked at the L1 bridges to see if they're unlocked. It's really hard to see but I do see very thin line across L1 bridges. It's so hard to see that I'm not 100% sure but I want to know if anyone else out there got their 1.33 T-bird with L1 bridges cut. I thought all 1.2Ghz and up T-birds should have L1 bridges connected. At least from what I've read from reviews.

What is the best way to close the bridges other than the pencil?

My understanding is that 1.33 Avia's are unlocked. You might try overclocking it and find out.

what board are you going to put your bird on ...buy changing the multiplier in the bios you will immediately know the answer to your question ;D

I have K7 Master so I guess I'll try changing the multiplier as you suggested. Since I'm new at this overclocking, I didn't wanna put the thermal paste/HSF on and off more than I have to but... oh well :(

changing your m-x has nothing to do with removing your hs,,,unless your changing the m-x buy using the bridges

if the K7 Master does`nt offer a bois setting for changing the multiplier then i would suggest you get another board !

I guess I didn't explain it clearly. I haven't installed the CPU yet. Now I have to install the CPU and the HSF to try changing the multiplier. If it doesn't work, I'm gonna have to take the CPU out again and close the bridges. Then put the HSF back on... Like I've said, no big deal. Just didn't wanna mess with it anymore than I have to. Sounds like I have to :)

I just got my AXIA T-Bird in yesterday and the L1 bridges are connected. WOOHOO!!

Is this normal for the higher rated processors or am I just one of the lucky ones?

I first had a DOA 1.2 -266 AXIA and it was unlocked. I replaced it with a 1.333 -266 AXIA and it is locked! I said bad words to it and ordered a conductive pen.

So... not all higher speed T-birds are unlocked. My 1.33 AVIA is locked as well. Either they're starting to lock their processors again or I got one of the older one.

hey taz, try this: put the case horizontal the just place the heatsink on tthe cpu and boot, this way you don't have too go thru the trouble of removin the heat sink a bunch of times

What kind of chip-destroying crack are you on?! You should NEVER do that!! The hsf MUST MAKE FULL PRESSURE CONTACT WITH THE DIE AT ALL TIMES!!! Clamp it on first. You might want to get a copper spacer to prevent damage to your die.

hey oni, i've done this many times with my duron and i don't have a fried cpu. i don't see how just resting your heatsink on the chip for less than a minute is going to cause damage.

Not sure if I'd do that. I've seen first hand how fast these chips fry (about 5 seconds) and I want my HSF or waterblock making good contact with the chip, not just sitting on there.

tt120 and oni, i now understand why you guys are not thrilled about the idea of not attaching the heatsink on the cpu and then trying to boot, i have a duron 700 which runs cooler than an athlon 1.33ghz. still though i have done this w/ out a problem for about 1min before i shut down.

my advice now that i've re thought about it, is to just attach the hsf, its not worth risking burning a tbird just because you were too lazy too put a hs on.
