I want to get a new hard drive soon (around a 120gb). I dont have a SATA mobo right now, but I will probably get one eventually.

Do SATA hard drives work with the regular ATA interface(40pin IDE cables)? That way I could use it now and use it with SATA when I get a new mobo.

Are all the current hard drives SATA compatible?

There are adapters that will let you turn a normal IDE hard drive into an SATA connection, but not the other way around. Sounds like you have 2 options:

1) Just wait and buy a hard drive with a native SATA connection.

2) Purchase an hard drive now. When you are ready to get the new motherboard, grab an SATA coverter so you can use the HD on the SATA port.

Yeah. Just get a regular parallel HD now.

I have a WD 120 GB Special Edition Drive if you are interested.
