View Full Version : A great gaming system
I'm looking to make an awesome gaming system. (Which by awesome I mean that it can run Doom 3 and Half Life 2 with all settings maxed) Since I'm posting here I'm obviously wanting to OC. My main questions are what's the best CPU to get for the price and overclock ability and which motherboard is the best to go along with it? I'm also getting a gig of Corsair ram if that matters.
If budget is a concern, then AMD is a good bang for your buck. If you want the top dog, but just don't want to pay a lot, then go for maybe the Abit IC7, 2.4C, and good RAM.

Don't forget the Radeon 9800 pro 256mb edition. Oh and the Audigy 2 class soundcard. Ac97 really suck!

What Batboy said- my 2.4c is kicking butt for games.
Yep, forgot to mention you need to budget for an excellent vid card and a nice "hifi" sound card.
I was planning on getting an Audigy 2. And for a video card I was going to get whichever performs best out of the new nvidia and ati. Aren't they supposed to be out in December?
Can't go wrong with the Audigy, they sound great. Seems like there is always a new vid card due to arrive in just a few months. If you can afford the best, then great. What I usually do is pick the second one down on the list and save lots of cash and still get a good vid card. My ATI 9700 Pro is doing just fine right now (but perhaps might need an upgrade by Christmas?). Check the video section for the latest news on the scene.
