clear cmos, look on the board for jumpers. look in board manual for info on doing it, should be fine unless something got fried (but I doubt it)

how do you do that and what if you don't have a mobo manual

look on your board for pins that say something like "CMOS CLEAR"... or something along the lines of BATTERY. Mine says "JBAT1". You just move the jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3 for about 10 seconds, then put it back. It clears all info in the bios (your o/c settings).

Try a google search for your mobo, you can probably find an online manual if you can't find the jumpers on the board.

The jumper to reset the CMOS is usually near the battery.

In the BIOS it should say something like "Load Fail Safe Defaults" and/or "Load Optimized Defaults". As KaHNza said the jumper you are looking for is usually near the battery, if that dosen't help you and you still can't find it look for numbers or letters on the board, they should be pretty big, a lot bigger than the little numbers all over the place. Try the numbers/letters in google, also look for a brand name that might help us to narrow down which board you have. Its tough with those older motherboards sometimes to find out settings, but they should be around. If you gave us the board name and brand that would help a lot. Good Luck!

Or you could just take the battery out for a second or two. It will be pretty much the same as clearing the CMOS. Oh, and don't forget to unplug the PC and press the power button for a couple seconds to drain the power first, otherwise you'll accomplish nothing because it will still have enough power to maintain the CMOS, as some motherboards will do. Better drain the power first just to be sure. :)

are you sure that is safe

Yes, it's safe.
The battery is only there to maintain the bios settings. That's all it does.
Pulling the battery for a few seconds accomplishes the same thing as a "clear cmos" jumper. One way, the battery is connected to the bios chip, set the other way, any residual power is drained to ground.

The power supply should be off and unplugged while doing this. Cycle the power button once you've turned it off, and any power stored in the capacitors will be drained of energy too.
Then it's perfectly safe.
