I have a ASUS AV7 133 MB and 1.2 gig 266 processor. I am overclocking it to 1333 (10x133). I am using a Globalwin 40x40 HS/F combo which has a thermal Pad on it. I am getting about 38-45c Idle and 45-52c loaded. Is this to high?
I have some Radio Shack thermal compound for transistors. Should I remove the thermal pad and use this grease instead? The guys at the shop where I bought the MB and processor said not to remove the pad.
Any suggestions? I dont want to spend a lot more money. I cannot afford an alpha cooler or something like that.
Thanks!

The guys over there know diddly squat. Yes, those temps are a bit high, but actually pretty safe. It woudnt hurt to lower the temps a bit, but there is definately nothing to worry about. and Yes you should remove the thermal pad and aplly the grease.

Will the Thermal grease I have from Radio Shack work? Its white and made for transistors. Thanks!

The white Radio Shack grease is fine I have used it on many cpu's, much better then the stock pad. When you remove the pad make sure you get the heatsink and cpu clean. The pads sometimes tend to get like glue after a while and stick to everything.
While you have your machine apart check out the finish on the bottom of the heatsink. A good lapping job will also help lower those temps. You want a maximum of metal to metal contact and a minimum or grease.
