There is also a K6-2/3+ which I think was the result of a die shrink and overclocked must better.

K6-3 had on-die cache if I remember correctly...

Read up on the techdocs over at http://www.amd.com

K6III's have on die L1 & L2 cache (I don't recall how much)

The original K6's were built on the .24 micron proccess.

the "+" series were intended for laptops, and getting the proper BIOS can sometimes be a problem. The "+" series of chips moved to the .18 micron proccess and the K6-2+ also has L2cache, but only half as much as the K6III. Also, do to the .18 architecture, the "+" series, also have a lower default core voltage of 2.0V

I believe this is similar to the differences between the Pentium III and the second generation Celeron.

yeah. the k603 had L1 and L2 cache onboard and it used the cache on the mobo as "L3" cache.
