The thread title tells all, can i game (CS, UT2k3, and other First person shooters) on a wireless net without LAG!

If so on B networks, what about G?

This is true ..... within the month i will be starting a modification project that will help you get the best out of your wireless LAN although I can't guarantee no lag :D

But will it LAG MORE THAN A WIRED NETWORK.

Thats what im asking. I understand cable has its limits and i will on occasion lag like a mofo, what i want tknow is do wireless network sucks for gaming, IE do they add 300 ping.

Well, that will depend on how the network is set up, if you are using WEP or WAP on 802.11g. How far will you be going? In general lag should be about the same or a little more, if even any all.

If you are in decent range, the lag is negligable. I can deathmatch fine over 802.11b, either on a lan or out to the Internet.

My mod will only increase the range of you wireless network thus increasing the network coverage and quality in reception which will reduce lag.

But Lag depends on many things, one of the main contributers i have found is the qualtity of Routerand if you have a low end router it can contribute alot to lag also quality of wiring.

IIRC, wireless networks run at 11 mbps, correct? My current home ethernet network is running at 10 mbps, and I have zero lag when playing network games. Pings of about 20 or under on all games.

but radio signal is slower than wired communication IIRC.

Anyways, The difference between a normal wireless and wired connection may be as little as 1ms or 2ms

What makes wireless a pain is the interferance, specially if thats all your using and you've got like 16 people playing wirelessly, Then it could congest the traffic and slow down.

actually they are both electromagnetic waves, and they travel faster in air then copper. however the difference is not noticeable.

if you are talking about bandwidth necessity, you will have more than enough. if you are close (within the same room, or next room), then i do not see how you would have much of a problem. just don't plan on getting a 2.4 GHz phone and using it around the network. my network slows down and drops packets when i am using my phone.

i game online all the time and it seems like i am hard wired to my network when it comes to connection speeds. a big problem that i find is interference from the other cables coming from the back of your computer. you need to make sure your antenna is not touching or close to other wires. it may be tough if your system is loaded with extra stuff :)
