The Pound (Pound Sterling, to give the official name) is the unit of currency used in the U.K.

World's fourth currency I think.....

John, maybe we should get you the English to American Dictionary when we get Unseenmenace's American to English one. :)

For £600, you can pretty much buy a well-rounded system with a few optional extras, unlike some of the big name brands. Building your own is now both easy and rewarding, plus you get much better value for money.

For the motherboard, the Abit NF-7S is a definite good one. Soundstorm, Sata, LAN and all the bells and whistles. £90 ish.

That CPU is another good choice, check www.cpucity.co.uk for £70.

Monitor - Iiyama are pricey but defintiely worth it - 17" is probably the best as they get expensive with the ones above that (hehe I have a 19" :p) - £200

Case: Chieftec Dragon are good, I especially like the screwless design. Comes in a variety of colours from www.overclock.co.uk £45

Cooling: Thermalright SK-7 + Thermaltake Smartfan II - definitely the most bang for buck. Also some good case fans and you're rolling - www.tekheads.co.uk

Graphics - ATi are the pick of the bunch now - Radeon 9700/9800 are good DX9 cards but expensive in the UK. NVIDIA even more so.

Speakers - Creative Inspire ones > *.* - we have 2 sets of various models and they rox. Surround sound makes the difference in games. £70 ish

Powersupply: Fortron 350 AT LEAST - consider the amount of juice you will be sucking with an overclocked CPU and a hefty graphics card - also consider Antec TruePower supplies as they are good for a ton of juice. They don't come cheap but most PSUs that either come with cases or are cheap are dangerous crap.

um.... I'm out of ideas :p

RAM/memory will complicate the matter, as there's little cost savings to be found if you intent on pushing the bus past 200mhz (you HAVE to get decent memory).

If you game the minimum I can recommend is the GF4 Ti4200... ATI makes a great card (I own one), but I usually only recommend them for high-end gamers and people with money to blow...

You can't fit 600pounds of anything in a US Dollar.

On maybe, but you'd never see the dollar without digging it out.
