My computer won't turn on. I went to Radioshack and bought a few switches so I could turn my fans on and off. But I first thought that I should organize the power cables so that the fans are all getting their power from one main cable. So I unhook the power cables from everything except the motherboard. Then I hook them backup up in the way I thought would be the neatest. I hook up the side fan and I also hook up 2 of the rear fans. So my hard drives, cd rom drives, floppy drive, and 3 fans all have power cables going to them. So reconnect the power in the back and turn the PSU on and press the on button. Nothing happens. I try it a few more times and nothing happens. So I take of the front panel to make sure that the on button is still connected and it is. Nothing seems to be wrong. But something obviously is since my computer won't turn on. It was working fine before I disconnected everything. HELP!! What should I do??

Nothing is happening. The mobo light is on though. So I know that the system is receiving power. But the system itself won't start up.

I unplugged the mobo and replugged. Nothing happened. So I unplugged everything but the rear fans and 2 of the HDs. It turns on. I replugged the CD-Rom drive and another HD. It turns on. I plug in the floppy...it DOESN'T turn on. So I think it's safe to say that it has something to do with the floppy.

Looks like the connectors on the floppy are a little bit bent. But it's been working all this time. I tried both of the floppy connectors and neither of them worked. gah. I guess I'll have to get a new floppy?

$20 bucks for a floppy drive? Your being had you sucker! They are $7 at Newegg. ;)

If I were you I'd rather get something else to substitute for a floppy drive... what do you really need it for these days anyways? USB thumbdrives or similar flashdrives are really convenient. :)

yeah I've been thinking about getting a memory card reader. But I need to use the floppy occasionally for school...I'm still in HS. As for a USB Thumbdrive, I'm waiting for a 1 GB model.

Every computer has USB ports anymore; you can get a 128 mb USB ramdrive from staples.com for < $40. You will never lose a homework assignment to a bad corrupted floppy disk again. ;)

Fat lot of good that does come excuse time. "Well you see, I could have done my homework and put it on a floppy that went bad but instead I just bought a perfectly function USB ramdrive, and then chose not to do my homework."

LOL... touche! Good point. :)

My $.02 on using a USB drive as opposed to a floppy disk or Zip disk for homework.

If you plan on printing your 10 page thesis on the personality traits of the individual members in say...The Breakfast Club, you better have connections in your school's computer lab, otherwise your neat and spiffy little USB drive will be considered nothing more then a virus laden, potential "terrorist attack" against your schools network when you go to retrieve your data from it at the lab. At least that's the way it's been in my school. (I'm in college though, maybe your HS is more lax)

You should leave the floppy unplugged and see it if still won't boot, but if the pins are bent slightly, I almost wonder if you didn't plug it in upside down. I actually seen someone do that.

Lol I did that once, instant drive death.

People still pay money for floppy drives? Who doesn't have an old floppy drive just laying around?

yeah I found my old PII and I took the floppy out of that. Haven't been able to see if it works yet but I'll do that sometime. My school is in the ghetto and we have some really messed up internet filter called Bess that blocks more educational sites than porn sites. It also blocks most all forms of online e-mail. Although I guess I could keep burning a cd with hw. The USB thing doesn't work either because all the computers here don't have XP. Most actually have '98. haha about the terrorist comment it doesn't help that I'm indian. Anywho, thanx to everyone for their help.
