I have installed numerous amd HS, I have a stock Pentium. It came with some foil on the bottom of the HS, I tore it off. I am guessing now I wasn't suppose to do that. Though I would rather use artic silver 3, which I do have. A pentium chip seems very different than a AMD. So can I use artic silver 3, or do I nee to reapply the foil somehow.
Thanks

*points to avatar* No you do not use thermal grease and the pad, either the pad or the grease. I would choose the grease since it performs far better than the pad.
If it's just foil then cleaning with rubbing alcohol and applying Arctic Silver should be just fine, IMO.

its never just foil. its foil and a rubber like coating.

on a P4 it appears that the entire top of the processor is going to touch the HS, so do I put a thin coat on the entire top of the processor?
