Over on Newegg, they have this (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?featureitem=1&description=27-131-311&DEPA=0) listed. And it says it's an 8X DVD +-R/RW drive . . . When did this start? I've not been in college THAT long!

It's the same old game. Introduce the burner at 2x sell it for a mint. Change the bios. Sell the same burner at 4x sell it for a mint. Change the bios. Sell the same burner at 8x.....And on and on.....

That's all fine and dandy, I suppose (silly practice, but that's how it's been since before I can remember). What I'm asking, though, is whether this 8X generation was even announced, or if the drive(s) are just going to start showing up . . . I had no idea 8X was this close!

What's next? Solid-state hard drives in a month?

Mmmmmmmmmm . . . solid-state hard drives . . . mmmmmmmm

I agree. I've just noticed the 8x Plexi at newegg about a week ago. The stuff just creeps up on you man. Now we just need some 8x media!
