View Full Version : help me FAST!!! tt smart fan 2 "coolmod"
my comp is all together now... ive just come upstairs to fetch a few things (keybo/mouse/this monitor!)
the tt smart fan had... from all its wires two small sets of wires forming a 2pin and 3pin (central pin had no wire...)
these seem to me, like they should be connected to the power led and hdd led on my case since the coolmod takes the mobo headers
however the coolmod's wires are not attached to the fan therefore the leds couldnt function properly... could they? so what are they for!?!?!
p.s. the thermistor isnt in use... its header has the cap still on... the blue wire is connected to the cpu fan header... and the 4pin molex is also connected!
it had a 3pin extender... that is where these two wires originate/diverge from the main set! help!
read the instructions that came with it maybe? :/

The led should not need to be wired to the fan in order to work. I don't know where you got the idea that it does. If I understand correctly, you haven't even turned the computer on to see if there really is a problem?

The wires coming from the coolmod fan grill thingi plug into the mobo where the power and hdd leds normaly would
the wires coming out of the fan plug into the temp sensor and/or the manual control rheostat
unfortunatly you cant have both the case leds and the coolmod working at the same time:( (unless you wanted to do a bit of rewiring)
I just wired one of these yesterday. The instructions were written by someone who obviously uses english as a second language, and hasn't quite mastered it yet.
Try this:
http://www.thermaltake.com/support/installations/v9.htm
Just ignore the heatsink instructions. I connected the led's to the 12v bus so I could still use the case led's. The fan will still light, but both blue and red led's will come on when the machine powers up.
If you like I can take you through what I did step by step.
Good luck:)
thx cuda... most helpful of the lot
the instructions were useless yes
i had wired the coolmod FINE - it worked perfectly
however my query concerned two wires coming for the fan itself which have NO WHERE to go! they are the exact shape to fit into the FRONT leds of the case... but logically they CANT be for that!
OK, If the cap is still on the thermistor input lead, the other lead you described sounds like the manual adjustment lead. Mine has two small yellow wires going to it.
Your options are:
1. Leave the cap on the thermistor input, do not connect the manual adjuster....the fan will run at full speed
2. Remove the thermistor cap, connect the thermistor, leave the manual adjustment off (do not install the cap there!) The fan will run at speeds determined by the CPU temp. (This is how mine is installed.
3. Remove the thermistor cap, install the manual control to the other two wire connector (not the thermistor lead)...the fan can be controlled manually.
In other words, only one lead will be connected at a time. The other will not. And the blue cap only stays on if you want the fan to run a full speed all of the time.
Hope this clears things up for you.
