My retail HSF for my Athlon 2000+ is slowly dying as we speak and I want to buy a new HSF that I can use now and in the future. So I'm looking for a HSF that works with my Athlon 2000+ and AMD Barton chips as well. Thanks for suggestions.

check out the heatsink ratings on the main overclockers.com page.. midway thru the page is a link to the list..

My recommendation would be the Thermalright SK-7 it rates in the top 4 of the coolers but can be found near $20-25, just add a good fan like the Thermaltake smart fan 2 and you'll have a heatsink good for as long as Socket A format is around..

All my 5 rigs use the SK-7

The Thermalright AX-7 is a good, inexpensive performer, http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-004 . Combined with a good 80MM fan, you'll have good cooling and low noise.

If you are planning on cranking it up a bit, the Thermalright SLK900A and a 92 MM fan would give you significantly more cooling for a similar noise level, but substantially more money. http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-022

Do your research, the 900A may not fit on your motherboard.

You'll have to determine the best heatsink for you. Only you know how high you'll be trying to overclock, how good your case cooling is, how much money you are willing to spend, or how much noise you're willing to put up with.
