Why are my temps so high?

Here is my system:

Biostar M7NCG NForce2 mobo
Athlon XP 2200+
Volcano 9 HSF
Dual fan 500W PSU
1 intake and 1 outtake fans (plan to add 1 more of each)
On-board NVidia MX 440 GPU
MicroATX case

My system runs SETI 24/7 and CPU temp is 53C, and that is on stock system parameters. Why? I removed HSF and applied AS3 again but nothing changed. Does it have to do with the fact that I have microATX case. I thought micro case should increase temps but not that much (some people are running at 35C with air cooling).

Motherboard sensors vary alot. Try touching the heatsink. Is it warm? Hot? If not and you are stable, don't worry about it. Touching the heatsink and stability are always the final word for me when it comes to CPU temps. 50C should give you a fairly warm heatsink. Above that starts to get hot to the touch.

It comes down to stability. If you are stable, there's no problem. Now if you want to overclock, you'll need some cooling headroom, so cool temps at stock settings are a must.

It's easy to tell if it's the case. What are the case temps?
They should be a lot lower than CPU temp. Quick look at mine now:
39 C case
41 C CPU

c627627, how hot is your room? Your case is burnin up! Mines usually 27c in my room. Right now my case is 23c in the basement with cpu temps @ 37c.

I used MM5 for temps, 1st sensor - 53C, 2nd - 23C, 3rd - 255C. I assume the first is CPU, the 2nd is mobo, 3rd - just some weird reading.

You know, you're right.

It's night now and it's 36 case and 39 CPU.
I guess the Thermalright SK-7 heatsink is so good that temps simply are not a problem for me even with case temps that high.

It's a larger than usual case with 3 (in) front and two (out) back case fans. They're very quiet but I guess they don't move air as much as louder fans. Still, temps are not my problem, weak RAM is.

53C load is fine, my 1800+ runs at 67C cant seem to figure out why so hot, might just of been a ****ty cpu

but yea 53C isnt too bad

XP 2200+ might be a Tbred A, one of the hottest AMD CPU's ever made.

my 2500+ barton reads as 50°C idle, but case reads as 32°C. Temps in basement are around 70-71°F. CPU fan's a zalman CNPS3100+, could that be the issue? should i get a slk-900A with a 92mm fan or something?

mbekkali, since you are running Seti@home 24/7, that will definitly bring up yrou temps. I bet if you turned off Seti for a little bit, your temps would drop several degrees.

mbekkali ,your using the vocano 9?

What mode are you using : full blast, manual or temp controlled? If your using the rheostat, then I suggest that you crank up the fan speed.
