u need to first try and up the FSB. Look in ure BIOS. When ure PC boots it might say something like 900MHz (9x100MHz). The 100 is ure bus speed. This will be 100MHz with ure CPU just now, but if you get it to 110MHz u can get 990MHz. change it in the bios.
if u can't do this do the next part. u may also want to try the next bit if 990 isn't enough (u want 1.05GHz at least!)
open up ure PC and take out ure Athlon. If it is a socket Athlon (it is flat with a bump in the middle and fits into a little socket) look at the left hand side of the CPU. u should see a little thing that says 'L1' there will be seven little gold bumps (these are the Golden Bridges). join the in pairs lengthways (apart from the last one) with defogger pen or some conductor of electricity. U could use pencil but it isn't very reliable. After you do that, put the CPU back in an boot it up. If it doesn't boot, open it back up and remove ure handiwork. If you can't, u have a useless CPU now.
If it boots, look in ure BIOS and check to see if u can adjust your Multiplier and FSB now. If you can't, your mobo doesn't allow it or u didn't do the pen thing properly. If it does allow you to cahnge the setting, try upping the FSB. get it as high as you can while it is stable (probably 107 - 100MHz). 9x110 = 990MHz
If u can, try 133MHz x 6.5 - 900MHz. if u can get a good high bus, try upping the mult, till it becomes unstable. u should be able to get at least either:
1100MHz = 8x133 or
1100MHz = 10x100
Good Luck
PS be careful or u will do something nasty to your CPU. u probably will invalidate ure guarrantee.
If u do break it, I amnt taking the blame
