View Full Version : [SOLVED] please help!! please look! pictures inside! core cracked!
I think I cracked the core pulling off the heatsink. Can't tell for sure though. System definitely will not post. This is not a hair or piece of lint it's definitely a blemish of some sort on the chip. I have gone over it several times with a lens cleaning cloth and isopropynol. Does it look cracked to anyone else?

This is what I see from the bottom of the picture to the top, FNG, can you confirm this?
-crack starts just in from the left bottom corner
-runs up (towards top of pic) through the copyright symbol (c in a circle)
-thru #8
-thru #0
-thru #3
Can't make out the top as well but it looks like it runs thru the "D" in AMD and then over to the left and up to the top of the core.
willysnut: sure looks that way doesn't it. I can't see it well with the naked eye but that camera showed even more than I could see. It's a panasonic palmcorder with a digital memory card for taking digital photos I used it on a tripod for super-duper up close shots. But that's not the important thing, I just wanted to know if it looks like enough to keep me from POSTing. I think it does, more and more. $217, two weeks old.

sorry brother .....................im not sure if you can post or not any way if she posts and runs you could pick the best heat sink and and get AS epoxy and marry the HS to the core and that might strengthen the crack from getting any worse, well good luck and keep us all informed.

Too bad a "Y" AXIA....it's in a better place now.
apparently anywhere away from me is definitely a better place for an axia.

That's cold man! And the flip off guy just makes it worse.
The crack shows most prominently in pic #2. I can't see it in the other pictures. Sorry man, tough break. Maybe you can RMA it. You should be able to remove a HSF without cracking it.
Youch! I thought it was just the bottom left corner, but after a closer look, I realized that it went almost all the way through the chip! Yeah, thats definately dead. I'd try to RMA it if I was you. See if you can get back your $217. Thats really too bad. I feel for you, though. I chipped my 1 Ghz Athlon a while back. My heart stopped. It still runs though, which is good.

What did you do to it to crack it that bad.
put an HSF on it. personally I think the reseller already rmaed it from someone else cos it idled at 47C with an mc370 and 26cfm fan in a wind tunnel 2 case. It always ran way too hot.
