yup both mine tbird and duron got the blue thingy. I think it some heatprotection or something. i really dont know but it should be there.

this blue stuff is an epoxy that is applied to all AMD cores. they all look about the same.

That's just where the sealant ran over. AMD seals all their cores that way. It's a little known secret that the sealant keeps the smoke inside the core. The smoke is what makes them work so well. If you let the smoke out, their performance deteriorates considerably, often to the point of disfunction. Always strive to keep the smoke in! ;D

I had some smoke "leak" out of a TV once, it never worked right after that. Now I know why.
