Hi again!

Having cooled my apartment down to 25 degrees C/75 degrees F and placed a 17" fan blowing into the now-open case, the Athlon (10x133mhz fsb) runs at 48 degrees C/118 degrees F.

I think that's tolerable. Mobo temp is 28 degrees C/82 F.

What's the temp range which I should be concerned about in the future?

And is it really worth the extra time, money, and risk to the CPU core by buying a new heatsink to attach to it? (I have a coolermaster, but cluboc.com has made mention of a heatsink which is $40, made of copper, and works very well - except of their mentioning caution when putting it on)?

Thanks!

Anything above 52c isnt good.
Try playing some 3d games or something that will stress the CPU and check your temps again.
Also, get a better Heatsin/fan combo.

Check them out at www.heatsinkfactory.com.
I personally have the Globalwin WBK38 abd some Artic Silver II thermal compound.

Here is a very recent review of the latest Socket A HSF's;
http://www.athlonoc.com/hsfroundup1.htm
I would go w/ any of the ones in the lower half, as these reviews are not totally realistic. You can see my results w/ the Vantec FCE 62540D, I personally recommend this HSF. It has the best clip and cools as good as the big boys. Do some research and you make the call.
