I am not trying to overclock (yet). But I am getting these temps which I know are not good. I've read that generally the CPU temp should be 10 degrees above system temp, so I know something's wrong. I am using a stock HSF with the goo that came on it. Could it be the thermal compound causing the high temps? Not good contact between HSF and CPU (because of the thermal compound)? I am stumped here. Can anyone help. System info is below.

Thanks!

Get rid of the coolmaster and buy a HSF with a delta fan, like my Globalwin WBK 38, and get some Artic Silver thermal grease.

I will (although i don't want the noise so I'll prob. go with the FOP 32), but regardless a standard HSF shouldn't generate temps that high, right?

core might have a crack. my axia came to me running at 50+C at idle until I got an mc370 at which point I could get it down to 32C idle. After that I tried overclocking, then one day the temps just kept rising and what do i see when i take off the HSF? a crack. probably there the whole damn time.

Wrong, I personally think that the stock HSF is meant to run at those temps, most users would never know the diff. It is the peeps that O/C or get to know their systems that would notice higher temps. ( 90c is considered max for 1.2 T-birds) If you are only half way to danger zone, why would companies spend $ for better HSF when most have no clue.

ya a stock HS can produce that heat-go to
www.coolerguys.com and you should be able to find something suitable there

I would tend to agree with you, Da Whip. Whatever it takes to make it barely run under specs is what is usually shipped. 70C is the spec, so it runs 66C-69C. I don't THINK it has a crack, FNG, Unless it is microscopic. On all the overclockers forums they show what all the whiz-bang HSFs will do in the benchmarking tests, but I have yet to to see any benchmarking of stock HSFs with standard settings by Mhz and FSB speed. Has anyone seen that kind of info?

the temp you have has been consistent with the 3 1G TB 133 that we are testing. With coolmaster it was 46/55, with generic it was in the 60's. I lapped the Coolmaster,AS, and lower the Vc from 1.75 to 1.7 and my temps are 43/48. I need to change HSF(on order) before OC. I wonder if the AXIA/266 runs hot?
