So I was cleaning the cpu w/acetone in prep. for swapping out the mobo and one of the little feet came off. My question is what can I SAFELY put it back on with?
Generic (Radio Shack) heatsink compound occured to me as well as Arctic Silver - I just feel a bit of a conundrum on this one. Do NOT want to chance any damage - you know? Elmer's glue? Just kidding - sure would appreciate a rapid response as I'm to that point in the rebuild . . . Thanx.

I'd just forget about the feet. Go out and get one of those cool new non-conductive shims.
Those little feet, (if you're talking about the four little round rubber spacers at the corners), are there to help keep even pressure on the core when you attach the hsf. You should be able to re-attach them with a high quality hi-temp silicon adhesive. Remember that a little bit goes a long way. An auto parts store should have what you need.

Hey FRANK:
If I'm wanting to put this beast together tonight, will silicone base heatsink compound do the job temporarily? Just for a day or two?
yeah. stuff like arctic silver may help a couple of degrees, but it's a pretty contentious(sp?) issue. go for it, and watch your temps.

Silicone based rubber adhesive/sealer can take a while to cure. The non-acetic acid type (preferred) can take 24 hours under low humidity conditions. Rubber Contact cement may be a quicker solution. You can get it from any hardware store. Follow the directions.

Shims effect the cooling, so I wouldnt use one
Steve 'Supercoolin' Foster did a fair amount of research on what CPU shims do to CPU cooling and concluded that it does not help and in fact, it is a detriment.

Silicone heatsink compound is not an adhesive so putting the rubber pad on with it wouldn't do any good. Like Hoot said some contact cement should do the trick.
Don't use adhesive between the core and HSF unless you never want to take off the HSF.
