Hi,

I have a crappy presario laptop I'm setting up for my boss. It had winME on it. I formated with the intentions of running 98se on it.

After the format, I continue on to load win98se and I get the error: disk error detected, press ctrl, alt, del to restart. Then it kicks me out to D:/win98.

So from there I just run SETUP. And everything starts installing, but about the time it gets to the saving setup info to hard disk, the comp freezes up!

So, with NO os on the disk, can I get this going somehow? I know the disk is okay, because it WAS running with winME on it. What gives?

are you sure it was running ok before? and how big of HDD is it? Do you still have the install disc for ME? might try reinstalling that just to check the drive.. and the disk error may not be the HDD, try using a different CD to install from.

I have win2K and XP as well. I will try one of those CD's. Yeah, it was running fine before (except for a couple missing dll files). Also, I think it's an 8.6gb HD.

Thanks for any suggestions!
