View Full Version : Duron 650 - can I get a 133 FSB?
I have a Duron 650 but I can't change the multiplier. I can get it to 708 before it becomes unstable. I tried using a 133MHz FSB (to get 6.5 x 133 = 866). Ok, so I have a 133FSB and a 6.5 multiplier and 1.55volts. It doesn't boot. I put the voltage up to 1.65volts. doesn't boot. I try 1.75volts - nothing. In desperation I shove it as high as the BIOS allows - 1.82volts - nothing at all.
I remove the modem, disable the o/b sound and still it doen't boot. Does this mean I can't get my duron to use a 133FSB. The RAM is noname PC133 - should be able to cope. ANy help appreciated, even if it is to tell me I have no chance.
OK, I'm driven to answering my own post, please help. CAN I get a Duron 650 to use a 133MHz FSB?
With adequate cooling, PSU, memory, etc, the Duron will not hold you back. My 600 runs 8x133 just fine on my KT7A.
Hoot
What kind of motherboard do you have. If you have an older chipset you may not be able to run anything close to a 133 bus even if the bios supports it. I would be a little bit leary of that noname pc133 ram. Try setting your ram latencies to 333 and slowly up the FSB. What kind of heatsink do you have on the thing? If its a good one don't be scared to up the voltage to 1.85. There is a way to change the multiplier on the chip itself even if your board doesn't support it. To do this you must cut and pencil in the proper golden bridges. I have the settings for each multiplier setting if you are interested.
Latency? Is this the memory thingy. I could try and change it but I don't know how. I ahve tried cut 'n' pencil but I ahven't got anything sharp enough to do it properly and my machine didn't boot when I tried 100x7.5 (I didn't do it right).
Thanks for the help, I would be interested in the mult settings
I have an OK HSF (@650 - 24C idle, 33C under heavy load, 30C under light load). I have a fan on my PSU, and a second 80mm intakeing air (bad grammar I know). The mobo is a jetway 663as pro w/ kt133a chipset using BIOS revision A10 (it came with A03) There is also some option for a 'PCI spread spec' ?. The RAM is set to run at 133 but I haven't tweaked any mem settings. I jacked up the voltage to 1.82 with nothing on the PCI bus and a 133FSB. No luck. Thanks for the help, I hope this post clears up any questions.
