What exactly does the I/O increasing do. Is there any benefit to me if I do?

TIA.

The I/O voltage is what powers the ram and cards in your system. I have tried raising it a little bit and it didnt do a thing for my stability. It may or may not work for you but I would only use it as a last resort as you can burn out things pretty easily if you raise that voltage too much.

You should only up the VIO to +10% above default, or 3.6v Anything higher, and component life tends to suffer, sometimes dramatically. I never run any of my PCs higher than 3.45VIO for any length of time.

I wouldn't increase the I/O unless you are going with a very high buss speed. I have played around with a higher I/O but it did me no good. Most Asus boards already have there I/O set higher for supposed better stability. If increasing the I/O makes your system more stable go for it.

I had to lower mine to get stable at 133+ fsb from 3.4 to 3.3

Who knows, I may be the only one here with one 128 stick of PC100 RAM and another 128 of PC133. I had to up my VIO to get the 100 running stably @ 133. I'm running it @ 3.4 now.. I've dared to venture to 3.5, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go.

I did notice that raising it snags a lil bit of voltage from Vcore. Good ol' Kirchoff @ work here, folks.
By the way, that's on an Abit KT7 board.

This may be a little late, but here goes.

I ran my Duron 800 @ 1.85v Core and 3.9v IO for about a week while running SiSoft Burnin wizard, Prime 95, and Seti@home all at the same time. This was all, of course, to burn in my processor. Guess what. I have only had my computer crash or lock up twice since that time.

Seems as though increasing your IO voltage, unless you have weak parts, does relatively little harm to any system components. I don't know about the long-term effects, though.

P.S. I just lowered my IO to 3.4 from 3.6. Everything runs fine.
