View Full Version : Has anyone here kept their water completely or nearly clear?
I'd like to keep my system clean of algae and corrosion, but whenever you use something like water wetter the water will eventually get foamy and you cant see through it.
Are there any tricks to keeping your water safe, clean, and clear?

Yes. First, ditch the water wetter, that stuff leaves a terrible residue everywhere. I use Hy-Per Lube (similar to WW) and zerex anti-freeze, about 5% of each with distilled water. My water is as clear as the day I put it in (about 4 months ago). The AF will kill (prevent) alge and the like.
With antifreeze and a stick of hi-lighter my water stays a clear green for months. I've never had a problem with water wetter foaming up but if it gives you that prob maybe try something else?

the anti freeze isnt bad in the long run? it doesnt damage your temperatures?
5% seems to be too little to affect temps. My temps remained the same after adding 10% AF to straight distilled.
Nik... You don't happen to have a link to the hyper lube do ya?
I searched all over but only found it at the hyperlube site. 4 bottles for 24 bux is a bit much :P
Thx

10% Zerex Racing Super Coolant & distilled here. 2 months running PINK water and i think its stained the tubes. (hardware store tube) the additive that Koolance suggests you use/sells in there system is clear (dont know what it is tho)
5% Antifreeze alone has kept my water just about completely clear; the greenish tint is nearly impossible to make out. Why do people need anything in addition to antifreeze, anyways?
i just use regular tap water and pour in alittle alcohol...works great...clear as ever

Most of the autoparts stores have it. Autozone I know does, pepboys etc. Check those out.

Ok, if I can find that at Autozone, you definitely recommend it over water wetter?
How should I bleed my closed loop system? I planned on getting a tub, putting gallon of distilled water inside it, and sticking the pump and the other end of the system inside the pump and then attaching the pump and the tube while underwater. Would that be safe for my pump and me if I put in the antifreeze inside the tub?
What about adding a T-line so you could add antifreeze after? You'd need quite a bit of antifreeze in the tub to get 5-10% into your tubes.

nikhsub1, I dont really see a reason for both? does it really make that much of a difference or any?
I would just use zerex?
Jon
i dont know, if i had a t-line, it would be inevitable that there will be bubbles. i wouldnt be able to have my t-line as the highest point since i plan on mounting the heatercore on the top
T-lines don't have to be at the highest point to work. Mine is before my heatecore which is at the bottom front of my case.

I have used Water Wetter without a hitch. The key is having a completely sealed and airtight system. I have not added water to my system in over 6 months and the system is clear and free of any growth of algae. To many think that they have the air out of their system when in fact they have trapped air in the core. There is nothing wrong with Water Wetter. Again the key is a sealed system.

Probably not. Im just so used to using both, but if I could only use one or the other, Id use the AF to keep things clean.

i just run a 10% solution of antifreeze and my system stays clear and it does not hurt my temps at all. ( ran with the res about 10% low with pure water, (de-ionized) and when i added the anti frezze my temps did not move at all.
i took my setup apart about a month ago, after it had ben up and running for almost a year, it did no show any buildup or corosion in the block, and thats all i care about, good temps and no build up. :D

I have heard of some people emptying a capsule of erythromycin antibiotic into the water. You might be able to pick one up at a veterinary supply store, pet store, or farm and ranch supply store.

I use 99cent rubbing alcohol. Gave me no algae or the sort for several yrs now.

what could you use to clean off mineral residue if you already have a little bit on your tubes? i have a little bit of white mineral crap on the inside of my tubes from useing tap water during testing and i can't get rid of the stuff. can AF take care of it?
I just use 100% deionized water, and make sure the cap is on tight........been clear as can be for the past 7 months

Looks like I'm using water wetter.

I wanted to use Hyper L but was unable to find it also. it seems that there is no place in ohio that caries it (or even heard of it) one guy asked me if i tried the sex shop! i THINK that the west coast gets hyper lube and east dosn't. you might try to order from west coast auto shop.
