Hey guys and gals, i'm having a problem overclocking my AMD chip. Let me give you a lowdown on what i've done. I've bridged all the L1 gaps with a pencil (with magnifying glass!) when i go into my bios i set the multiplier to an easy 11 (pretty simple to test with no other changes) when i save and exit it just sits there with a black screen and does nothing. K, that's it! =) is that a problem with my unlocking technique or is there something else i should be doing. I actually tested overclocking my FSB to 110 and so it was running at 1100 MHz but Tribes 2 didn't like that at all. =( anyway, any help would be appreciated. here is my specs

AMD Athlon 1GHz
Abit KT7 RAID
384MB 133Mhz SDRAM (1/ 256 and 1/ 128)
30GB IBM Ultra ATA 100 HD
Windows 98

thanks

HI Bertyy!
First of all; Exchange the pencil graphite with conductive defogger paint. The pencil trick caused me a lot of problems, despite my meticolous work under a x12 watcmaker magnifier.
So rush away to get that paint, and take great care to avoid bleeding over from one bridge to another!
Clean the bridges with aceton before applying the paint. You should also check ur cpu for cracked corners, take great care when removing / mounting ur cooler as well!
I cross my fingers for you!

Before I got rid of my KT7 for a KT7A, FSBs in excess of 103 were unstable running 3D intense programs. I thought it was my components, but I truly believe it is the shortcomings of the VIA KT133 vs KT133A chipset. I had to be content with overclocking the multiplier only. Now that I got the KT7A and migrated my components over to it, I can run my FSB at 150 and with the memory set to 2-2-2 with 4way interleave. It was unfortunate that I was not better informed when I bought the KT7, else I would have waited two more weeks until the KT7A came out. Luckily, I was able to sell the KT7 to offset most of the expense of the KT7A.

Have you tried any other mults just to see if they work? Sometimes the pencil trick will mess up certain mults. Try using a lower one like 5, 6, or 7, just to see if they work. If they do, its probably just a bad unlock.

Hoot's got the nail on the head . . . my old KT7-R WITH defogger unlock still would not do anything on the FSB but stock. Zip. Nada. I had to go to the KT7A-R to accomplish that. Even with the defogger unlock the KT7-R (900mhz) still would only get 105mhz oc max.

No, just migrate the hardware. That's all I did. One caveat that had me worried when I first got my KT7A. Depending upon what bios revision your KT7 has, you may or may not need a fan with a tachometer output plugged into header 1. I forgot that and was mortified when I could not POST with my then, new, KT7A. Once you have gotten it to POST, you can go into the bios and disable the fan checking option. Get the KT7A. It opens up a whole new aspect on overclocking.
