View Full Version : 1.2 AXIA Tbird used to oc
Exactly-it used to hit 1425mhz and now it won't go past 1212. I have KT7A no Raid mobo, FOP-38, kingmax pc150/256
GF2 GTS 32mb, maxtor 60gb,
Dlink NIC, SBlive, Plextor 12/10/32a, CL 52x, Enermax 350w-PSU. When it gets to the W-98 desktop it freezes. I removed to SB live hoping that did it but nope. All these things worked and I can't pick out what caused it. I have tried wz and yh bios but I don't think that is why. I think it's a windows problem but I can't isolate it. Can anybody here help? I just lost 225 mHz somehow and don't know how.
Is it warmer in your computer room now, than it was when you were getting the higher speed? IE Winter? You did not post your temps with your information.

Had same with my 750 @ 1008. Turned out to be corrupted Win98 sys files. Try the System File Checker under the Tools menu on System information. If it starts finding a lot of them, cancel out and reinstall windows. I didn't reformat or anything, just ran the setup file in the win98 folder from Start/Run - Browse. Solved my prob Hope it helps. - rc
what have you changed about your house, PC or anything else around your computer?

temp changes make big difference in o/c for me...~
i can reach 750@981 now
but b4 in hot room i get 750@96x
I have already reinstalled w98se, temps in house should be cooler seeing as the pc is close to an ac vent. I have Sunon 80 mm intake and exhaust, and a Delta 60 mm 38 cfm in the case moving air from intake to cpu area and a 60mm Sunon exhaust. It doesn't reach 90 f very often. I removed the cpu and one L1 bridge looks gray compared to the others which are a silver/gold color. I'm sure sure it was this way when I got, but I don't think so. I think what started this was flashing the bios to YH. So I flashed back to WW which didn't help. Now it has ZT bios. I will try the system file thing and I am also going to put some conductive epoxy on that discolored bridge to see if it does anything. If it never did oc then I would just get a new cpu whenever, but it ran stable at 1425mHz.
And so the system files aren't the problem. I put oc epoxy on the discolored L1 bridge to see if that might help NOPE. So, it looks loke there is a problem with this chip-it won't go higher than 1210 and it used to do 1425. What fails in the chip that makes that happen? does anyone know? Guess I'll just get a new one.
Your thermal compound may have dried up or evaporated or your heatsink may have been bumped and has a little air space between it and your cpu. I would suggest taking off the heatsink, cleaning it with alcohol and then reapplying the thermal compound and re-seating it.

I had this same problem after flashing my bios, then flashing it back. For me, it was that I had a CAS2 rating set on my RAM. I pushed it up to CAS3, and got 150 mhz more.
