well I can't offer anything but advice, but luckily that is free :). Get a $10 shim from www.coolerguys.com, you won't chip anything with them. Sounds like a no brainer to me. Get the nonconductive ones they have, they are top notch. I have one on my celey and one on a duron with the fop 38 and now have no worries.

I work at a computer store, and we put Chrome orbs onto our Durons and lower Athlons. I have probably put almost 100 on, and have never chipped one in my life. I did fry one once though....
My advice, don't force things. If they dont feel like they want to go, they probably won't. Oh, and buy a different heatsink. For about the same price, you can get a Coolermaster hsf (cant think of the one) that works much better.

dont say SHIMS ARE GOOD as this may not be a correct statement, there is a report on the front of this site.. with the title "CPU Spacers Adversely Impact CPU Cooling".. which says it all really
http://www.overclockers.com/articles313/ <-- for more information
I have heard of HSFs crushing the die, but I think they were just modded Socket 370 Fans for Socket A processors.
Be careful about waht HSF u use
Has anyone ever thought about temporary shims, I'm sure they would have because it seems so obvious, you know holds in place while you install and pulls out when your done...
