Alright. So i have this slk-800a on my 1700 tbred B. i am currently running 1.725vcore. with my sunon 84cfm fan on medium (3300rpm) i am idling at 44C. The wierd thing is. my case temp is 29C, and ambient is 26C. if any of you have seen my case, know that it has an insane amount of airflow. (2x120mm and 6x80mm)

Do you think my problem is just that I have a crappy lapping job?

if so, what grit sandpaper will yield me the best result? and when i lap it, do i wet the sandpaper down?

It doesn't sound that bad to me considering you're running the fan slow, and it's a chip that is overclocked to the limits.

Well if you really want to lap the heatsink I would start out with 300 and then move to 600 and if you want to polish it off with 800.

Thank You,
Daniel

well even on high speed, it doesnt get below 40C idling. and full load, thats a totally different story.

So your case temp is 29C
this... http://www.benchtest.com/calc.html
gives your overclocked wattage at 110.4 Watts.
The c/w of your heatsink is 0.26 with an 80 cfm fan at full bore.
0.26x110.4=28.7 degrees
29+28.7=57.7 degrees, so if your full load temp at full fan speed is reading 58C or less, then you're doing well, and you've got a "cool" chip.
