Goof-off for cleaning heatsinks/processors?

YOu can use goof-off, according to Artic Silver of the heatsink but on the CPU they say to use Isopropyl Alchol. I personally use the alchol. It works well but you need to take your time. I would recomend trying to blot it up first and then use the alchol. THe XP's make it terribly diffucult to clean up the Artic Silver.

Thank You,
Daniel

I use alcohol to clean everything about my comp, LCD screen, CRT, proc, components, solder joints, labels heat sinks, everything. and it works. And its cheap (45-65c a bottle at local grocery). never used goof-off type stuff on computer though.

If another thermal compound has previously been applied to the heatsink, the mounting surface should be thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned with a xylene based cleaner, (Goof Off and some carburetor cleaners) acetone, mineral spirits, or 99% pure isopropyl alcohol.

Ahh ok looks like I am gtg.

use on the heatsink.but DO NOT use on the cpu core.
i have used goof off to take paint off my old case.its strong enough to eat through 2 layers of clear coat,4 layers of paint,
and 4 layers of primer just by letting a few drops on top of my case.
