......she was nice while she lasted, my 1.33 she was. But I had a CompuNurse thermistor taped down on the ceramic so that it touched the core. Worked great, but I went to redo it and foolishly put two pieces of strapping tape instead of one, not even thinking that that had the potential to raise the mc462 hs off the core. When I fired her up for the last time, the compunurse went from 23c, to 30.5, 65, 79!!, to HHH!!! That thermometer only reads at 99c, so she was well above the rated temp of 95c!! I pulled the power as fast as I could, but my a7v133 will not post w/ her. Upon taking off the 462, there was abosolutely NO artic silver on the side of the core's indentation, the damn thing wasn't even touching the HS. The proc has no marks, scratches or scorch marks to indicate that it overheated though. And I bought it from SMK components, who only gave it a 30 day warranty. Looking at my invoice, its dated April 12, 37 days ago today, May 19. I called there support line, and if I'm lucky enough to get it RMA'd anyways, I have to talk to a supervisor on Monday. What really blows though is that I'm a poor grocery bagger that makes $7.05/hr. The only reason I was able to get that was that I got a huge anniversery check last month. I can't nonchalantly go and get a new $250 proc. I pray to God they'll lemme RMA when I give em my tale o' woe...

...if they don't RMA it, what should I do. Just take two weeks pay and buy a new 1.33? Wait a few weeks-month for a 1.4? How much are those expected to debut at? Or, how much are desktop Palomino's expected to run? Should I wait for one of those, I assume the a7v133 will support them w/ a BIOS update? But I gotta do something, going from a 1.33 back to my 800/200fsb@ 1007mhz is a fairly large performance hit...

I can't think why they wouldn't replace it, but if I were you I wouldn't tell them about the thermometre stunt. If you can't get it replaced then I recomend waiting until the palamino comes out and people start reporting on how they overclock.

I agree with Phil. A lack of full disclosure might be wise in this instance.

I Hope that they RMA the CPU for you.

If not, than with the release of desktop Palomino, the price of T-birds should drop, and you may only have to work one week in order to get another processor. The trend is your friend. I have limited myself to the purchase of $120.00 processors.

So, I may have to wait several weeks for my next 'AXIA' T-bird.

Flux,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. When you talk to the supervisor; definitely tell them that you installed everything to specs. No thermistor, no o/c, used an AMD approved psu and hsf and hopefully they'll exchange it.

Have you checked their resellerratings.com comments? I would check to see if anyone gave their preivious customers flack about returning defective items.

If they don't RMA, you might just want to get an inexpensive Duron or slower T-bird in the meantime and wait for Palomino. I believe the desktop versions are slated for last quarter.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

...very good news. I talked to the supervisor at SMK and she said they'd have no prollem exchanging my 1333!!! Sweet. I just sent it off today. I'm in Orange, California, and it goes to Rancho Santa Margarita, which is only roughly 10-15 miles south of here. So I should be back up and running at 1333+ by next week sometime. Assuming there is no complications w/ the RMA, I'd order from these people again in a second...how phat is that? Returning something past warranty.

i hope you learned something from this little heart-stopper, i know i did when the same thing happened to me. now i always check to see if the contact is GOOD w/ my bird after tinkering. damn they burn quick don't they. i ran my old 700E at 933 for at least a day without the fan on my gorb running before it hicupped - cumines can't hold a candle to big t-birds, but they sure run cool.

Your old 133 lives has been reincernated. It is your duty to OC it to it's Max! Just double check the HSF this time :)
