any official HL2 demo? I haven't seen one come out unless I missed something. Thats quite unusually as many games that come out have a single player demo. I haven't seen anything for Doom 3 either.

The only thing for Half Life 2 is that video demo showcasing what they have done with the directx9 abilities. As for Doom 3, there has been a leaked demo floating around the net and irc channels, but has been out fo ra very long time and I don't believe it would showcase anything near what the final product will be like.
good luck at yrou interview by the way

the demo for the original half life didnt come out untill after the release of the game, im not expecting a preview demo of the game.
and as i know this thread will be killed like every other half life 2 thread, so I am going to take the time to voice my opinion that clumping all half life information into one thread is just asking to create a mess. I don't even bother myself reading through it (the official thread) has no direction to it. Forcing all HL2 information in one thread is like creating one thread for all ATI 9500 cards, or one thread for Red Hat Linux... I know there will be lots of threads based on half life in the next two-three weeks but still. The purpose of the games forum is to post information about games, organization is virtouse especially with all the topics that are associated with games. There are many questions/comments that will be made in the next few weeks and finding an answer is not made easier with one uber thread.

I would like to second what whooping said about putting all half life 2 posts in one thread is a bad idea. Yes, there are a lot of half life 2 threads, but there is good reason for that. I think that is one game that just about everybody has on the top of their list. They are not spam and from what I have noticed they are all different.

I'll third that.
Condensing the specific threads would be cool, like on big steam sucks thread of people who want to complain about it and get things off their chest.
Or one thread dedicated to HL2 specs and reqs would be cool as there are a ton of threads steming from BS rumors.
But one thread for everything about the game just isn't enough with all the topics floating around.
I hear you guys but a lot of this stuff should go there. Like this question for instance. I agree having a big indepth discussion about one element of the game deserves its own thread. It's the quick questions, rumors and link posts that do not, and were clogging up half the forum. Although nobody seems to want to use the official thread for what it is meant for.
@ the original question: Ya know I've read a lot of stuff about this game but oddly enough nothing about a demo. Becides speculation in a few articles that (as panda said) the demo would come comfortably after the full game's release.
Why? HL2 does not need a demo to increase its initial sales.

I definetely agree that the main thread that Gnerma created should stay around, lots of useful information for someone who hasn't kept up with the developments of half-life 2.

I never thought of it that way but you make a very good point. I remember when ut2k3 came out a lot of people were turned off by the demo, causing the game to lose possible sales. Just about everyone and their mother is amazed by what they have seen in the hl2 videos.

i refute posting in it because it is such a mess, and it lends itself inherently to being one. Perhaps a HL2 Faq stikied, like your initial post in it) but not a hl2 ultimat thread
